Why Poon?
it's a strange race name for what is pretty much Jackalopes. I don't get it.

EDIT: Besides them being dyrads and the word being tied to trees I don't get it.

One thread gets locked, and barely a few minutes later you post this thread mentioning the same exact thing. 27 steam level, and you don't know how to quickly glance at the top of the forums to check for a duplicate thread before posting? I don't like it how suddenly everyone is attacking the name of one of the types of characters in this game, it feels like drama is allegedly intentionally being stirred up.

Do you want the dev to change the name or something?

PLEASE FORGIVE ME AND DISREGARD, I AM A BIG GOOFY DOOFUS AND JUST LIKE TOOTHPASTE THAT ONE GUY HAD, I FEEL LIKE A PIECE OF ****

Edit: I didn't give you a jester award or anything, just saying. Someone has been going around giving literally everybody a jester for a couple days now. I got so many jesters recently, it's like people think if they give someone a jester that they're automatically wrong. I like sharing my thoughts but I don't bother giving people jester awards because it's just a waste of time and it's incredibly petty.

Edit: I genuinely feel really bad about being so distrusting now, but I'm not going to delete this like a coward or anything. I can't emphasis how close I was to not posting this goofy comment, but now I do regret it. If you're ever going to post a comment or really do anything in life and you hesitate for even just a moment, chances are there's a good reason why your gut instinct might be telling you it's a goofy decision. When in doubt, do nothing.
(I am not a life coach or any kind of professional, and this is not advice)

OP seems like a good person and I seem like a goofy idiot. *sigh*

attack? A friend asked me if I knew and shrugged saying I'll ask while playing another game and it's not any characters name that I'm aware of. It's a race name. He checked the description and we came to conclusion it's something to do with the wood meaning of poon and dryads even though it lacks anything relating to dryads we think of. But still want to see if there's an Official answer. Or if the dev had some kind of inspiration we don't know of. It's so different from Imp, kobold, brydle, and chang that it piqued our interest.

Edit: I don't do jesters I only saw you answer when I responded. And looked at that locked thread which it's just weird. Glanced over it not seeing anything that looked useful.

No, I meant someone gave you a jester, and that It wasn't me that gave you one. How could you give me a jester if I don't have one? (yet lmao, I'm sure someone will do it to me again soon)

If you're genuinely curious and just came to ask questions then I apologize for being so cautious about it. But yea. If there's never an official answer, I don't even care. There are a very limited number of characters and possible combinations of the alphabet and at some point or another we're going to run out of possible words, and in almost every single language, at least one word accidentally coincidentally means something silly or rude in another language- this is a very common phenomena. It doesn't matter if it means something unusual somewhere in the entire world, because what really matters is the meaning and the intent behind it that the developer decided it would have when the dev created it or was inspired by it. Because of this game, whenever I think of that name, the image that pops up in my mind immediately is "cute rabbit or squirrel video game character" not something bad, or whatever people are saying. It's a huge reach, a huge stretch of the imagination, huge mental gymnastics and an unhinged amount of effort that some people are putting into trying to scour the internet and silly illegitimate informational sources trying to prove that it's a bad name or means something bad to someone somewhere, in some kind of insane effort to hurt this game somehow or stain it with a bad reputation (Inb4 "but it's already bla bla bla bla bla I don't like magic sword fighting squirrels!")

I just want to play my magic sword fighting squirrel game in peace ya know?

Anyways, peace alright.

It isn't hard to believe that it was a coincidence that 2 things were posted at a similar time. Bringing up someones steam level and belittling them for not looking at the main threads before asking something is in fact more petty than giving somebody a silly jester badge.
If you looked at their steam account to see their level then surely you could have seen how many hours they've sunk into the game? Do you think they'd still be playing it if they were throwing a hissy fit about the name of a species? I'd been wondering why the species was called that since byrdle is a bird, imp is obvious, ect. They're all somewhat self explanatory except the species in question

I didn't go to their steam profile I just hovered over their name. I think that people who actually go to another persons steam profile just to snoop around are creepy, and people have done that to me before which is why my profile is now private, just not dealing with that again. But yea you know what, I accept your criticism, that was too harsh on my part and I apologize for that. I guess I just really care about this game and I felt strangely threatened by the idea that there could be weird stuff going on because I swear every single time I like a game, it's always a high quality game, and there's always some kind of evil plot to ruin it. Like clockwork. I guess I pick them really well. I don't like most games, but the few I do like mean a lot to me. Seeing as how chill "The Hand" was after my incredibly defensive comment, I just want to express my best wishes and good intent by saying that I'm happy they're here and also enjoying this game as much as I am.

Poon is a... questionable name

Oh gosh now that's just cool, so now we're gonna need DLC where our magic squirrels can use magic to teleport to the moon or something, but it's not the earth moon, it's like whatever moon this place atylss is in might have. You inspired my imagination and now I can't tell my brain to stop thinking about how cool it would be lol.

Well, let's see.

Imp: Self explanatory, to a degree. Aquatic as well, though?
Kubold: Kobold but with an U.
Byrdle: berd
Chang and Poon: MIGHT be related to regional aesthetics or religious ideology, like year of the mouse for Chang, and maybe some tribalism for the Poon?

I think it's maybe because it sounds kind of cute, without that much of a deep meaning. I could be wrong, though. Poons in this game seem like a catch all of various furry species, since you can make something that looks like more than one real world species with this template.

In contrast, the other species seem a bit more limited in what they can make. Kubolds can make well, kobolds, but also mini wingless dragons and maybe stretch it to some other scalie species, Changs are mainly rodents and Imps can make a shark anthro just because there's a shark tail there for it. But with poons, it feels like you can make a slightly greater amount of furry variants, and so, no specific name for a specific creature it mimics would fit it without excluding the others it can make. I mean, at least for me it wouldn't look too good to be able to create a rabbit from a species called foxian...
