Can you rename characters?

Is there any way to rename your characters? I want to change one of my character's name.

In game? no. You have to manually edit your save file to change the name.

I assumed I would have to do something like that. The save files are in ATLYSS_DATA/profileCollections right? How do I edit the file to change the character's name?

Find the save slot corresponding to the character you want to rename(the files start at 0 so for save slot 1 it'd be profile 0, slot 2 is 1, etc.) open in notepad, Change the "_nickname" to what you want the new name to be. make sure it has the "" around it. save.

Is it dangerous to change the character name? Could it cause problems with the game or save file loss? I don't want to touch anything. Hopefully name and class changing can eventually be a part of the game?

Just changing the name of your character shouldn't have any adverse effects on your character or game but if you would be worried about that you can always save a copy of the save (making your own backups is a good idea anyway now that cloud saving is set up sometimes cloud saves can be weird and mess things up in their own way causing you to lose progress)

Yeah, you can change your name & race, since the file can be opened & edited in notepad. Just make a backup before you edit anything just to be safe :D

That's good to know thank you. I noticed lots of people in the forums allegedly had issues with cloud saves overwriting their actual saves (I might be misunderstanding?) so I disabled steam cloud saves entirely. I just save often, and also make multiple manual backups very often as well.

What I'm really worried about is:
-change characters name
-everything seems fine
-several saves many days later, game suddenly has an issue that just didn't manifest until later
-go back to save backup and lose huge progress and items

So I'm afraid to change my name unless the developer adds that to the game, or makes a public statement that changing the character name in the save file is safe, but still advises people to be careful and make save backups. I would feel safe if they said it was fine, because they made the game and have a better idea of what could happen. So I'm gonna be patient I guess.

Are you able clone a character if you copy and paste a character's save file and then rename the file to another save slot number?

That's a very good question, I would also like to know. Are multiple characters all able to have the same name, or does that cause problems?

Yes you can clone characters, same name and everything. I tried it just now, even changed names after and race.

If someone changes their character race, what does that entail? Just changing the name in the text file, or is it a little more complicated? I heard some people say that it allegedly causes problems, but I don't know if I really understood.
