Alternatively, if you truly wanna be a glass cannon, katars are tailor made for DPS, meaning you could possibly get a mileage out of scaling them to Strength instead of Dexterity.
You can get away with rescaling anything, honestly, just uh... be sure to pick a high tier weapon to rescale instead of wasting a stone on something that'll become outclassed by other readily available weapons of the same type that happen to be statistically better.
Mystics can take advantage of sword and shield well enough if you're using the close range oriented spells to still effectively defend yourself.
Fighters can use enchantment to get a ranged option for a little more flexibility. Bells feel like a fun secondary for my fighter.
Ultimately it just makes for more player choice, even if the weapon you choose isn't optimal for whatever reason.
I'd say the main benefit of this build is that you can run Divine as a melee attacker without needing to invest in a third stat.
