"new" is an understatement... It's in early access. that means it's not even done being made yet.
is written in the FAQ that Kissef isnt going to create modding tools and/or ask for a workshop implementation on Steam. Still, the game is made in Unity so is realtively "easy" to mod, there are already various on Thunderstore
People have been discussing custom weapons, emotes, gear, etc.
From what i can hear, a big problem is that there's already a limit to modding in multiplayer, any change from the standard actually heavily removes or gimps your ability to host to other players without some sort of non gamebreaking data sync that wouldn't corrupt files.
So while a single player dungeon mod, if it was created, wouldn't be off the table. A huge issue is a lot of Atylss is multiplayer and the items either wouldn't load at all to other clients, so you might grind gear that others couldnt's see, (or if they did, potentially corrupted their save files just by having)
So a major focus is on how a mod could communciate with other mod holders, except everyone would need the EXACT same mod installation. I think the version indicator might work, but another big problem is that any major mod that touches the unity files (resource.assets), would break upon updates until a recompile.
In addition, while a lot of the current mods use say, a bepinex in atylss or addon folder. For some reason the Atylss modder community userbase heavily struggles with.... a lot.
People struggle to unzip zips. People struggle to install files right, people also refuse to file fixes when their texture loader needs the files to be named PoonTex02.png vs PoonTex02-resourceasset6671.png and doesn't work.
The modding community that has no issues is silent, the one that do are often vocal, loud and ignore lots of instructions. It kind of makes me concerned about a potential Helluva Boss situation, where 60%+ of the intended audience for a 18+ targeted show with themes about sexual violence got hijacked by kids going "shut UP, ITHINKITHOT! VLETNIOD IS SExEEE!!" to like problematic relationships.
Atylss is a fun game and i think the dungeons are great, and i have no problems with adults having fun with other consenting adults. Just i have no evidence but some of the people in the modding scene heavily make you struggle for 3 hrs for the labor of... moving a file from a zip to a game folder... Whiel just screaming. "DOESN'T WORK!!" "have you tried.. following the 1 line instruction we gave you?" "NO! GET ME SOMEONE WHO JUST MAKERITWEROK!!"
A shame, really a shame.
Official modding tools, or even better a level editor/toolkit would really be something that benifit the game greatly. I already cleared all the content game has to offer, and i don't expect the 1 indie dev guy to constantly realease new content on a stable basis.
Theese kind of tools given to the community has a potential to do great things, you know, like warcraft 3 - which custom maps not only prolonged the game's lifespan for years and years, but also inspired the creation of the whole new genre of games.
this is a single developer game, in early access, in an engine that already has full mod support outside of native tools. Also, mods greatly hamper the multiplayer experience because of file mismatch issues. it wouldn't "benefit the game greatly" it's an unnecessary headache for the dev, and a redundant effort anyways.
This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Based on discussions here and the youtube videos I've seen, this game "broke containment" too early, so you're gonna have a buncha people who are riding hype rather than actual interest(not gonna say those are mutually exclusive feelings but still.)
This is going to sound mean, but if you're struggling to work with the most basic computer instructions, such as renaming files, working with zip files, or even moving a file from one location to another, then you just shouldn't be modding. Learn how to use a computer first, then learn how to program and use decompilation tools, before you learn how to modify software
On that note, kids shouldn't even be playing this game, given the suggestive nature of it. Sure, this game is fundamentally really fun, but there's a suggestive tag and mature content warnings for a reason. Sure, it's not explicit, but there's enough going on to make it rather unsuitable for people that young >.>
