As of now, is there any reason to balance stats?
right now it just seems like pick your scaling stat and HP and then dump the rest, is that at least it for now?

That's the case right now, ye. Evasion and crit bonuses from upping dex are pathetic, for one. It's essentially "Attack and Health" instead of 4 stats.
Yep. Even if you wanted to get a little crazy with a hybrid you would probably just do the primary+vit strat anyway and stack enchanted gear that has the other damage stat.
The only reason to do any type of hybrid allocation at the moment is putting Int to 7 on fighter just so you can use Rage and Divine together from a full mana pool.

I haven't ♥♥♥♥♥♥ that far in classes to tell combos yet like that. Kind of hoping softcaps become the name of the game just to help block out some builds. There's also seemingly not much ways to control aggro other than being the one to hit first and hammer in as much damage as possible.

Even after a bit of multiplayer though, this system works ok and is impressive that it's done by one person.
It's one of those rpg's that doesn't reward you for taking a different route in the middle of another or trying to be a jack of all trades. But it's immensely simplified in that there are only 4 of them instead of 20+ stats for individual weapons, areas of magic, and character traits. I'd say it makes it very approachable to those unfamiliar with these number games.

there's a small reason to balance stats which is weapons hitting damage cap via scaling, making further investment only worth through your skills' scaling, or the secondary effect of points (stamina crit or mana) but usually you'd just go for vitality after hitting your cap or just keep going for skill damage

Don't even need to do that. My build consists of a mix of Killer and Guardian enchantments, with just enough Strength to hit weapon scale on the Pummeler. Anything leftover gets dumped straight into VIT; I still have enough mana to pop off my Rage, Keen Focus, and Divine.

I briefly played with a hybrid setup for fighter by scaling my Pummeler for Dex, but the Fighter gear just doesn't provide enough innate dex to really make it worth it. Decided to relegate my fighter into being a sword and board tank to stun enemies, and my bandit as a hammer wielding glass cannon with a dex dump, using just enough enough VIT to make full use of my bunbags when Divine and Recovery is down.
