Dyes: can you get rid of a dye from your character after its already been used?

Title. I cant seem to find a way to remove my dye when i used it. when I picked the option 'Use' I expected the game to make me choose what item i want to dye next. instead it dyed me entirely, and so far it seems with no going back too. Any help? or is it just an oversight?

You're technically always dyed based on the color you picked in the character creator, so the way to undo it is to use the original color of dye you had.

so if i used a red dye i need to get a second one? if so, do you remember where i can get it?
Edit: if this isnt what you meant, then do you know where i can find a black dye?

If you had black before then you will need the gray dye.

Drops from chests and maybe monsters and pottery. I'm not really sure if there's any specific areas/monsters which drop them more often, so I can't help you with that. :/

If you're in a multiplayer lobby you could ask around and see if anyone has it, if not you should come across one eventually by playing.

as far as im aware dyes seem to drop from specific locations and from specific monsters
i havent come across a gray/black dye at all just yet, sadly

figured they also drop from the 6-12 dungeon before getting off the game, but still thank you, appreciated

Full list as far as I know:

Red dye drops from Death gels(medium difficulty catacombs) and Hellsludge (Hard difficulty catacombs), as well as the Red mushrooms from Grove.

Green dye drops from Toxics in medium catacombs

Blue dye drops from Wizboars and Blue mushrooms

Grey dye drops from chests, pots, and golems.

the game just needs to copy Terraria's vanity system. Customization is only going to get more complicated and Terraria's system is an optimal way to manage it
