Fritz Chess 14

Fritz Chess 14

Lower ELO training
I am total beginner so I also would like to have a few games with "beginners".
When I go to the handicap and fun game I can only reduce the elo to 1460 which I believe is way out of my league :)

I was reading this article: http://chesscentral.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/fritz12-tip-setting-the-strength-to-beginner-levels/
that shows an ELO rating as low as 900 so I was wondering where can I get an engine that allows me to select such a low rating?

The article talks about the Turing engine but the link doesn't seem to work...

try stockfish. it will go down to 1250. also on the upper end is much stronger than the fritz engine.

you can download it for free at http://stockfishchess.org/

A follow-up question on this...
I just read that the Friend mode will adjust itselve according to your skills. It just needs a few games to adjust the handicap.

Is this also capped based upon the lowest setting of the engine or will Fritz automatically adjust the engine parameters to match even the worst beginner?

i have no idea tbh i've not used that feature but it stands to reason that it would. maybe someone can answer more concisely. one thing i can sugest tho is to just do a simple google search for "uci chess engines". there are so many it'd be impossible to list here but it might be fairly easy to find an engine that's more suited to your play style...that's one of the things i like about fritz is that it'll take any engine programmed with UCI "universal chess interface" reguardless of strength. and there are weaker engines out there you just gotta do a lil diggin is all ;)

also you'll find that a lot of websites that are built about chess engines will list ELO also believe it or not 1400 isn't really that strong a player. i avg between 14-1500 and basicly people with ratings like that pretty much know 2 things 1. how to play and 2. some very basic tactics

Thanks for this :) I'll just give it a go with the engines I got so far and see how it goes.
I've read a couple of articles that stated that 1400-1500 are skilled beginners or talented beginners.
Me, being modest, I don't think I'm either skilled or talented so that's mainly why I am looking for a lower engine but heck, why not give it a go.

keep at it man you'll find soon enough that 1400 isn't very strong and you'll laugh at the silly things it does ;)
