Deep Fritz 14 now available as DLC!
Dear Players,

We have listened to you! We had a number of requests from players to offer the Fritz 14 multi-processor engine. Fritz 14 is available with two versions of the chess engine: The “standard” single processor engine (included in Fritz 14), which utilizes one processor for all calculations and only one core of any multi-core processor. For ultimate performance the team at ChessBase has developed the Deep Fritz 14 multi-processor engine, which utilizes multiple processor cores for hyper speed calculations. This engine is now available as DLC for $ 19.99.
Here are the features:

Ø Completely redesigned 64 bit engine

Ø Supports up to 8 processors

Ø Packs almost 100 ELO points more than the previous version

Ø Play better faster with the world’s number 1 Chess Engine!

Thank you all for your feedback regarding our Fritz 14 game and we are proud to bring this additional content to you.

+1 awesome sauce! :D
Why does it now say that the base Fritz 14 was released today though (22 sep) when it wasn't?

This was a glitch on Steams end - We have let them know about this.
I'm a bit confused about this to be honest.
Yesterday I bought Fritz 14 which is my first chess application ever.
I notice that that my main engine is already set to Deep Fritz 14 x64 so I guess I don't need to buy the DLC for multi core support?

64 bit code running on one core, I would assume.
Multicore support as DLC is "a thing of the past". I remember seeing that description of Deep Fritz many years ago and didn't buy it back then either because it's bloody ridiculous.

I agree. The game is obviously written to use multiple cores and has multicore processing just turned off with a flag in the normal version so they can justify charging more to the hardcore users who search positions and so on and need the multicore processing vs. the people who just use the game to play a quick game of chess against the computer.
64bit software isn't always multithreaded. it might just have the ability to access higher memory than 32bit was capable of (which is an advantage over 32bit). but the multicore versions of chess engines are constantly stronger, faster, and all around just perform much better than their single core counter parts google TCEC or CEGT. the research has already been done see the difference for yourself :D
So for a beginner I shouldn't have the need for the multicore engine?
probably not man i mean up untill a few years ago fritz was considered the top chess engine in the world. straight "outta the box" without tweaking the strength or anything it's pretty brutal. but there are lots of other things you can do with this software like input games you've played in the real world for analysis....this is where multicore chess engines shine. they're basicly able to do the same thing much more efficiently than their single core counter parts. but if you're not planning on training for the world chess championship you probably won't need it as the standard package is fine on it's own and still does everything deep fritz does...just a bit slower ;)
Ok thanks. That makes sense :)
As stated before, I'm a total beginner. I'm planning on using the application by playing many games vs the engine and I also want to analyse the game and learn from my mistakes but if I have to wait a few minutes longer for it to analyse my noob moves, than it's something I can live with.

there are other engines you can "plugin" to fritz as well some of which are freely available on the internet. stockfish is my defacto go to engine. it's super fast and makes the default engine in frtiz look like a patzer haha....also one of the kewl things i like about fritz is on top of being able to play games against various engines you can play online and the software automatically stores all your online games in a database for later analysis. good luck with your chess :)
I double checked and when the x64 is selected I can configure the amount of processors it uses.
So it looks like I have the multi core dee fritz engine but I haven't paid for the DLC. I just bought the game on steam.
Is this a glitch or is it normal that I have access to this engine?
