A buggy game

The game will only let me play against myself, I can't play the computer. I can't get an engine. I have logged onto the website with my username and password but it will only view me as a guest. I never had a n issue with Fritz 13 but this one is buggy. I hope Chessmasters comes back because it was less confusing!

I would appreciate some feedback.

The help manual said I should be able to play the computer right away but it is not letting me.

I didn't have this problem with the last game. This is a drag, I am excited to play the game.

that's an odd problem dude. have you tried using another engine? or maybe reinstalling fritz?

I reinstalled it twice now and I have windows 8. I can't seem to get any engines to work.

i got review copies of this and fritz for fun from viva/encore. one thing i can say is this version is a lot more buggy for some reason. i never could get the media system to work in this version but works in fritz for fun just fine. wonder if you could somehow get a refund and pick up the other package instead.

I want to use Fritz 14 since I paid for it. Fritz for fun is for beginners.

sorry but you're mistaken. it's the exact same software the only differences between the two is a slightly better engine(which as far as engines goes sucks anyway), and a more updated version of the games database. even if you went ahead and got the deep fritz engine, it can't touch stockfish. better off getting the cheaper package(that's a lot less bugged out), and installing another engine to use with it...but hey it's your money.

Fritz for fun doesn't work on windows 8. It would be nice if someone knew how to fix Fritz 14 since I already spent the money.

I wish chess master would come back. They were a better game. Always worked.

Hopefully in Fritz 15 they wil have all the bugs out. It needs a better design.

well considering the problems you're having with the full version i wonder if it's more an issue with windows 8. i'm still running windows 7 so all of my testing has been on that platform. unless someone else can confirm or deny an issue with windows 8, i'm not really sure what else to suggest. in any case, i'll nudge the viva/encore CM maybe he can help further.

silly things you might try, make sure your OS is updated fully and you have the latest drivers for all your hardware. and possibly run antivirus/maleware checks.

OH! just a random thought here but have you activated the software?

Yes I have activated it and it says it should work with Windows 8. Thanks for your help :)

Does anyone know how to contact the complany who makes the game? I'm hoping to get a refund for the game.

It keeps saying that no engine is loaded. When I go onto the play chess website it says i cant load an engine because I'm a guest even though I have logged in with my ID and password.

you shouldn't have to login to play with fritz, all you need to do is make sure both program and engine are activated.

also in the engine tab, / change engine, what do you see? as it show show fritz 14 engine. (either fritz 14 (32bit) or fritz 14 x64 bit.

another thing to check, make sure that "switch off engine" is unchecked, (it seems to check itself everytime I start the program) but yes, there are better engines then fritz,

i can't seem to locate the Fritz engine anywhere on the program. It says I have no engines when I start the game. I tried unchecking that box I have never seen the 32 bit or 64 bit engine.
