as she portrayed in game? yes I think they did a good job with her, to the point that I'm excited to see what they'll do with cyclops
game-play wise? hell if I know, girl gets insta-locked as soon as I get to the select screen
The plus side with Emma, tho, is her shield can be up and you can do other stuff. While with other Vanguards you can only really hold the shield up & that's it. So she's got that going for her at least.
I also like how she can summon a sentient to deal extra damage but it's such a small projectile it's like almost impossible to hit smaller targets with it but when you do if they don't run away to disable it they basically get nuked.
Her best parts about her kit is she has a lot of crowd control. She can kick people off maps while in Diamond form, stun someone with a grab, and AOE stun entire teams with her ultimate within 40 meters, which is huge.
Overall, I'd say she's at least an A Tier, but Magneto & Strange are still better overall by comparison.
Her big weakness is when she's transforming to Diamond form, tho. She's stuck in an animation for about a second & can't do anything. She's basically a sitting duck until the animation is over, so it's better to transform behind cover or behind your shield so they can't take advantage of it. I dunno if there's a way to cancel it or not, yet.
Her ult is hilariously stupid. Massive, constant AOE with good DPS that negates counter-ults from even a single frame of exposure and rapidly builds up to forced movement that lasts the rest of the duration. It also seems to bypass standard barriers, but not total immunity states like Magneto bubbles and intangible states. She also seems CC resistant during it, like most characters with full commitment channeled ults; the dev team seems REALLY scared of people being knocked out of ults, which is wholly counter-intuitive to this genre's game design.
I think she just needs some numbers tweaks, more vulnerability to counter-play in her ult, and a barrier shape change.
The main draw of her grab is that it's effectively an extended stun in a game that lacks reliable stuns; if she grabs a tank, then a competent team will take that moment to shoot past and pop a healer or DPS, and grabbing any kind of squishy means they're dead from focus fire or the kick follow-up splatting them against a wall or pushing them into your waiting team.
Yea, i thought it was hilarious when I body slammed The Hulk during the grab. If everyone attacks the stunned during the grab, they are as good as dead.
It's better to punch twice before kicking, tho. They can't move for a split second after the grab is over & you can get two extra jabs on them before they can move again, & that's when you should use the kick. I've taken out Full HP Magneto's & others by doing this already.
Would need to play more but i like her. Not super Op it seems tho we will see how meta shifts
I think one of the biggest issues is that she's an off-tank who has no mobility. Every other off-tank has a movement skill, but she doesn't. It leaves her with basically no way to get to the positions where she's needed, so even though in theory she can grab a Spiderman out of his ult it'll probably never happen because she'll never be in range to do it.
IMO she's easily the worst Vanguard but we'll see how it shakes out.
