serious questions
i didn't start playing yet, but i have some questions before i make a decision.

how fast is ranking up and ranking down?
i don't wanna get stuck in a rank above my skill level forever.

is every character viable?
what's the point of having a huge roster if only a handfull are viable.

how toxic are the games?
that one i more of an opinion i guess, but i really don't react well to people insulting me for the smallest mistake, i know i'm not good, you don't need to rub it in.

are there any fun things to do other than just ranking up?
something that might be a bit less stressfull than competitive forever (unranked games don't count they usually are even more sweaty than ranked games)

that's pretty much it.
i hope i don't offend anyone by notimmediately jumping into a maybe super competitive PVP game, i know what these kinda games make people do/say hence why i'm being carefull.

The game is F2P so you might as well download it and find this out through experience.

This entire community page is pretty negative the majority of the time. I think it’s a great game. Most all of the characters are pretty viable. Ranking up is quite easy and that’s an issue right now but hopefully that will be fixed soon. There are lots of fun stuff to do besides ranking up. Always a fun event with challenges to complete. Each character has an achievement or two that you can try to grind and get all of. And you can level up each character by playing them to unlock cooler character icons to flex on other people. I’m 350+ hours in and I still love it
dont expect anything so you wont get dissapointed :D

Ranking is optional. Quick play and other game-modes are non-ranked and not as sweaty as you're thinking of. Ranked is as sweaty as you think.

Is every character viable?
Yes, but no. Most characters, and I do mean most, are viable. If the other team picks the counter to your character, and really know how to play it, and their team is cohesive, you're likely not going to be able to play a given character viably. You switch off, you're viable again. Every spawn gives the opportunity to change hero, if you want.

How toxic are the games?
The voice chat is an absolute cesspool. Most games people aren't using mics. You can mute people.

Other fun things to do other than just ranking up?
It's a game. The mechanics are fun. There's a handful of game-modes. It's free to play. It's enough for now.
Ranking feels like rng at times, it all depends on the team you have, if you have people to play with, you will rank up fast if you all play your dedicated roles and do well

All are viable, some are more fun to play than others, and some are necessary to countering good players on specific characters, like namor is a hard counter to spiderman.

Toxicity depends. Ranked can be toxic, quickplay is less toxic. Overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10 toxic salts in ranked and about 3 in quickplay. Your result may vary depending on the region you play in.

Just playing the game, there is no 'arcade' mode so to speak, just two more gamemodes of deathmatch and team deathmatch, with events, which can be fun or pointless. I hated dragon event, but clone wars was a fun gamemode.

If you have to ask "How toxic are the games". Then PVP is not for you. Go play a gacha game or something.

You prepare yourself to take the good with the bad. Or don't play.

It’s a fun game. You will enjoy it. But you will also hate it. Have fun!

i mean, you're probably right, and i know i'm never gonna be super fond of PVP games either, but playing them casually shouldn't be a crime, even though it feels like it is most of the time.
I would recommend playing against bots
it's more fun than ranked
