IDK about for casual play but for competitive it is very much the case. It is why a lot of top players avoid playing in 6 stacks as it makes the teams they play against often be contender teams with much harder matches. And I can attest for the fact that you can not 5 stack in competitive.

I play 6 stack in competitive and base on what I seen so far, it is true that you are up against a team that is much more harder.

Also, you can't 5 stack in competitive. You can 5 stack in quick match if that's what you are talking about.

I solo queue quite a bit, and I never mind it. Just make adjustments to work with the team like any other game. When I do play with friends in a 5 stack it just makes us not want to play the game, because the game doesn't want to.

It does not let you join a competitive game with a 5 stack. You can with 4 or 6
