Is Overwatch experience a must to play this game?
I feel like everyone who plays played Overwatch. Should I buy Overwatch and play that game for about a year or two before jumping into Marvel Rivals or should I just play Marvel Rivals and be dead weight to my teammates for not having Overwatch experience?

Hero shooters are extremely easy the difficult part is finding a team that doesn't suck ass

You should be fine. Overwatch experience transfers over to Rivals. Mantis essentially plays like Zenyatta that also has sleep dart, Jeff is Moira, Rocket is Baptiste that shoots Orisa's gun and moira's orbs, etc.

But if you're a completely new player, you don't need prior experience. Just start with the main heroes like Jeff (main healer), Captain America (main tank), and punisher (main dps). They're pretty good at what they do and you can expand to other more complicated heroes once you get more experience.

Personally tho, start with a healer and just follow your teammates around, paying attention to what they're doing.

I see. So a new player should not be playing Psylocke then because she is too hard right? How much experience will I need with what hero before I am allowed to play her?

Why would anyone blindly believe what some random person told them on the internet? Obviously, if you want to get better at Marvel Rivals, then play Marvel Rivals.

Despite what all the Overwatch refugees might think, Rivals is a different game, with different mechanics, heroes, and team compositions. Even though some individual abilities may be copied/inspired by Overwatch, they are usual found combined with hero "kits" that are completely different from how they appear in Overwatch. For example, Tracer and Psylocke have completely different kits. Sure, you could argue the similarities, but you can also argue the differences. In short, it's a stupid argument either way.
So how come all the good players in this game come from Overwatch? Clearly there are skill carryovers from that game that reward players with years of experience of playing Overwatch whereas someone with no overwatch or call of duty experience has a clear disadvantage.
quit ♥♥♥♥♥♥ worrying about other people and worry about yourself. if you want to get good at marvel rivals play marvel rivals, the issue you're talking about with the games is how they play in similarity to eachother, which doesn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥ matter if your main goal is to get better at marvel rivals? if they play relatively like the same game. play the one you like better. simple af.

I'd recommend just playing Marvel Rivals since it's new. Imo OW2 is a harder and more competitive game making it harder for newer players. It's made even harder that the game is already filled with players who have been playing for years and know the game very well. If you want to pick up OW2 after you're more comfortable on MR you can do so and have an easier time since many MR heroes are inspired by OW design.

All I can tell you is you don't have to get Overwatch. Only thing is how you like to play.

People will just be mentioning things like how the character would play somewhat similar to another. Like for example: Star-Lord. Tracer's smg like guns, with ultimate of Soldier 76, and Reaper's Ult as an ability.

This all just means Star-Lord has high speed dmg, but a somewhat lacky power. He can't self heal, and to help build his ultimate a lil faster, he can pop up in the middle of like 4 and dmg them. Gain Ultimate from like %11 to %56.

WHen he uses his ultimate, he can fly around, auto lock onto enemy, and just full clips into others. WHich means he also the attention grabber and be squashed right away.

Its all gonna be how you want to play, even Healer will have to do dmg when waiting on the chance to heal again. Or to help the team quickly take out the other team for yours to win.

They came from Overwatch because, surprise, Rivals is a new game. Did you expect this game to be filled with a bunch of babies that never touched a game before?

I played OW1 and 2 and skill did NOT transfer over because they aren't the same game.

Also that guy that told you not to play Psylocke without having played Tracer is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. If there is a character that's closest to Psylocke from Overwatch, that'd be Doomfist and that's with a big BUT. The Tracer-like this brainlet was thinking about is actually Star Lord. But being good with Tracer does not mean you'd be good with Star Lord, as again these are two different games. Not to mention Star Lord is capable of flight.

If you have experience in arcadey shooters as a whole, you'll have an easy time adapting to this game. Yes, that includes Team Fortress 2, don't think I didn't see that comment.

Overwatch is not training wheels for Rivals. Overwatch is Overwatch. Rivals is not training wheels for Overwatch. Rivals is Rivals. There are similarities between the two but that does NOT transfer 1:1, because by the end of the day they are not the same game.

yes. You must play OW first for free for a couple hundreds of hours, then you start playing Rivals. After that, you have 2 choices:
1. Start bashing OW because you have found a new game that you enjoy more just because you just have played OW for hundreds of hours and you need something fresh.
2. Start bashing Rivals because it is a shameless copy of OW.

Why? because it has been scientifically proven that it's impossible to appreciate and love more than 1 video game without bashing the others.

not unless you wanna see how much better rivals is than current overwatch
Pretty easy to learn just keep playing casual matches. Trial and error. Everyone learns at a different pace :D
