Short list of tips from a 5000 hour OW player
Okay Rivals peeps. Some very basic tips for new players that aren't experienced in hero shooters. Here are a few general tips.

Dont stagger. If two or three people on your team die and you're at a major numbers disadvantage. Back out. Disengage, leave the fight, meet back up with the team. Yeah you can carry this game more often. But its just better to disengage, stack back up with your team and push in again.

DO NOT go in 1 V 6, you will die almost instantly. Especially with better players that have mechanical skill.

Use high ground duelist/strategist. there are a ton of great high ground angles on these maps. Use it!

Time your dives! If your playing a flanker or assassin hero. Wait! Move to where you want to attack from and as soon as the tank engages and they're distracted. then you dive the supports or damage. DO NOT SPEND THE ENTIRE MATCH FLANKING!

Know when you're countered. If you keep diving by getting exploded after a single kill trade or even worse no elims at all, stop! You're countered it will not work you need to swap!

Tanks players/vanguard. Your job is to control space and be the aggressor engage manager basically. You decide when and where to take the fight. Ideally you want to be fighting in front of payload trying to force the enemy to stagger and not allowing them to take any map control. Your supports/healers should be behind or on an off angle to do what they do, poke damage, heals and utility.

GROUP UP! Don't go running off in 6 different direction.Off angles high ground all good, But if you're running around on a flank while the enemy is pushing cart or capping a point, you're literally doing nothing to help.

Hero shooters are pretty complex games. There is 100% a right and wrong way to play them. Competitively, QP its whatever. But if you're going to play ranked. you need to learn the game.

Heres a pretty good guide from a pro OW coach on Rivals that explains the game better than the game does.

Damn it and here I was hoping to learn something :steammocking:
(I have close to 3k hours across all platforms in Paladins, so this is all common sense to me)

Well here's a comment to boost it up the board before it inevitably gets buried :rockparty:

Right haha. No I just wanted to throw out some very basic stuff. Im seeing SO many mistakes when I'm playing and I feel like a huge number of players are honestly brand new to hero shooters. Im seeing a LOT of CoD stuff in ranked and just no. Im a support main.It is an actual nightmare trying to play comp with some of these teams, they have no idea at all how to position engage or disengage. Its all just run and gun CoD play, at least a good portion of what ive been seeing.

Its played the same way, the same advice applies to most hero shooters. The concepts are transferable from one game to another. Its not exactly the same but the concepts and basic positioning and all that is the same. Its basic FPS stuff that seemingly A LOT of Rivals players are lacking.

I blame CoD for ruining team based games, nobody knows how to play them anymore without having to take the time to learn.

But when you do learn. You see how bad other players can be and how bad you may have been. I thought I was good when I first started playing hero shooters. I was not good! I was terrible! But I had amazing mechanical skill and always had gold damage and the most kills. I also lost a ton of games cause I was playing poorly.

It's literally just a mostly-worse clone of Overwatch

Its similar. But different enough. I actually quit OW. Uninstalled after my first day with rivals. Cloak & Dagger has such a fun kit to play! I'm hooked! Its like old OW, I really am excited to see how this game evolves. But I get where people say that. It really is different though. Im already almost 100 hours in with rivals and thousands in OW once you really dig into it you can see the differences. It just feels really similar because its in the same genre. SO I mean its going to have a lot of the same stuff, OW was technically a TF2 rip off if you really follow things back.

Fair to say that Overwatch and hero shooters were inspired by TF2, but they're not the same thing. Rivals, OTOH, is just a reskinned Overwatch with worse graphics, worse maps, worse performance, worse balance.

I do like some of the Rivals kits. And I like that there are more melee-centric characters (though those aren't balanced well and are mostly crap right now). But it really doesn't do anything different than Overwatch, other than the weird destructible environments that are super gimmicky and not very good.

I'm sorry, did anybody ask?
