How to check ping rate in game?

I've always wondered what my ping rate was while playing video games, but never figured out how to check it. For a game like Rivals being online multiplayer, I want to ensure I get the best ping possible.

How do I check my ping, and what range should I aim for as a good ping? If my ping is too low/high, how would I change it?

Somewhere in settings you can turn on ping and framerate tracking, I don't remember exactly where. Green numbers and yellow numbers are acceptable ranges, red numbers is not good.
The game itself has questionable optimization so your numbers will fluxuate no matter what you do, but the best way to assist ping is to use an Ethernet cable for internet instead of wifi connection (as a general rule in online gaming as a whole really). I don't have a choice but to use wifi so I just learn to deal with it. Also low ping is always a good thing, smaller the number the better.
