Weird Trend In Ranked
I am noticing a surge of players in low elo Competitive matches of players with minimal game time (less than 50 total hours) insta-locking as random characters that they have no experience with.

I just played in a match where 5 out of 6 players on my team did this while I played as my main Strategist. We got demolished and I got SVP going 2-5-1 with 1 KO. Other KOs on the team were 1, 2, 1, 1, and 0 in a 2 round Domination match.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me recently, but it is the first time it has been this bad. Has anyone else been experiencing this with their teams lately? Why are entire teams throwing matches by selecting characters they don't know how to play when their best character is available for selection?

Not enough for me to call a trend but I've experienced some pretty bad games where it feels impossible to get any momentum. Usually it's teams that seem to have no concern for features like team-ups
There's so many players that have main character syndrome, they're stubborn as a damn mule, they will not switch, and it's always the ones that insta-lock DPS characters, like i said earlier in another thread, they're either cracked at the game or absolute buns, there's no in-between, and unfortunately, it's more likely that they're buns.

Even if you ask them to switch in a nice way, they'll take offense to it and tell you to shut up, i've been through it so many times, and it's always a loss with them, can't save the game if the team is basically down one teammate, a 5v6 because even if that teammate is still there, they're doing nothing.

I get that, but my issue here specifically is the polar opposite.

Instead of people playing a main character in comp when available, they're playing characters they have limited to zero experience with. A few weeks ago I had someone play as Hawkeye and run away from team fights just to die to flanks. Never used an ultimate all match until the enemy team was at 99% on Round 2. Complained about heals all game. So I go back to look at the career after the match is over and...It was their second time playing Hawkeye in a comp match.

And it's not like someone else was already playing their main or anything like that. People are just playing random characters for no reason and throwing matches before they even begin.

I am a GM3 support main. How do you know they are playing characters they have no experience with? Maybe they're just bad? We have all been in games like the one you mentioned.

And gold/plat is rough because you get a mix of players who really are at their max level whose skills aren't that great with players on their way to GM who will roll them over.
Either they are just bad and got carried there or are smurfs using a side account to practice someone they are bad at. I'm a GM Psylocke but god knows if you put me on Wolverine or Magneto I'm not getting out of Gold EVER lmao

Wait so you're getting players that are "practicing", is what i get from that. Wtf, i've heard of people saying they use ranked to practice, but jeez. Definitely sounds like a smurf to me too.

Checking career pages shows these people have minimal hours of playtime with certain characters in competitive. Some people are insta-locking their 10th, 11th, 12th most played character with less than an hour of competitive playtime.

If this is another wave of low elo smurfs ruining matches for people, I'm going to be so mad. Now not only are they boosting players below their rank with hard carries, they're also taking players already below their rank and dragging them down more for "practice"???

They seriously need to make smurfing a reportable offense. This is getting way out of hand!

Pretty much, QP is actually worthless for getting any real practice on a character because people dont care about team comp at all. At least in ranked there's people who want to win and are willing to flex so you can proper teams to practice with.
smurfs? The smurfing is insane at low rank rn (i know this because i have a alternate account to play w friends). You have a bronze 2 match w a hawkeye w a 50% hitrate, 46 kills and 30 final hits. I never play my mains on my smurf since its trashy but yeah, coming in as a new player now must be so defeating

I think the devs definitely need to address the smurf issue. I get people want to practice, but holy crap, new players get BULLIED by said people wanting to practice on ranked.

Climbing the ranks is miserable when you have experienced players that know what to do.

The solution? Make the level requirement to access Ranked be level 20 or 30. NOBODY will want to put that much time on alts to get to ranked, unlike now, level 10 is achieved in like a few hours.

The game sucks. It will die within a year. Hot women won't save it. It has something what casinos have. The game is against you every time, when you're losing. One match? Ok. Two matches? Ok. Six matches when your teamates have 3-10 constantly and the enemy is 30-3? This is not balanced game to play 6 matches in a row with that K/D each time
