I play strategist the most, and I'd be happy if I had just one annoying enemy to watch out for, but I get to avoid spidermen, magicks and BPs with their combowombos sneaking up on me.
A good Hulk and Magneto can easily hold their own against Wolverine. And Thor and Venom laugh at him. A good Thor will wreck Wolverine. And Venom if he is going to lose even after he pops his Reselience ability can just swing out.
And The Thing is resistant to Wolverines Grab and Ultimate.
And the Semi Tanks like Fantastic and Winter Soldier can take everything Wolverine has to offer and then some and send him packing and running if not just out right kill him easily.
So with Wolverine being and tank buster and his damage output being tailored to do that he can only really out do 3 out of the 10'ish tanks in the game.
And in the event that you do get kidnapped, you have supports to help you out.
Invisi woman can pull wolverine out of the kidnap and save your tank. Loki can place a crystal on where they land and save your tank. rocket can give him a jump boost so he can fly out of there. If you do have double tank. Magneto just needs to steer clear and be a backline tank, and use his bubble on ally tank who might get kidnapped.
There is a ton of counterplay, but players never learn how to deal with it because they prefer to ban characters over learning to deal with them. Lot's of characters aren't as oppressive as you might think if you actually form a fall-back strategy instead of just winging it and hope it all somehow works out just because.
If you do face him having an incredible Invisible Woman player to counter him would do wonders (extremely rare), but if it's up to you Hulk and Penni are really good IF you are keeping track of him at all time and shielding/stunning his leap will shut him down.
As a funny data point, The Thing is the worst Vanguard in the game vs Wolverine for some reason. Makes you think.
We've come a long way from the days when Wolverine was considered utter garbage.
