IMHO, there should be smurf detection like dota2 which makes these player's ELO spike up on landslide wins.
Smurfing is most damaging when it takes forever to rank up properly. Not sure if placements would help this problem either since people could just throw those.
Funny thing is if you follow the paper trail, some of the groups selling accounts have ties to netease.
This would suggest netease is in on it..
The purpose of which is to misdirect players into blaming things like smurfs and cheaters for their terrible matchmaking experience instead of the god awful matchmaking system that's actually responsible for the terrible experience..
They should def ban smurfing like Dota or Lol.
Then implement a true SBMM /w placement matches.
And remove their stupid bot games in quickplay.
IMHO they buy those due to entry level needed for ranked games. Currently level 10 account is needed, so it still requires you to play a few hours to get to level 10 (in legit way).
Phone ID would probably be somewhat effective, but it is rather controversial idea. I heard Blizzard wanted to do that for Overwatch but eventually backed out.
IMHO, NetEase should drop / delete their free non webstore associated game client. Even something like requirement of valid Steam or Epic account is somewhat of a gate keeping than simple email verification, you can make countless free or temporary email accounts.
Of course you could debate about how quickly it should move you. You can gain about half a rank per match if you perform absurdly well, meaning you could go from Bronze to Silver in like 6 games if you're dominating to an absurd degree. Is that too slow? Hard to say.
Can't say I'd be surprised. Game companies have a long history of employees being involved with item selling stores, etc.
It seems especially bad in silver and gold on PC. Lots of people with level 12 accounts that are gold 2/3. It's obvious people are just buying alt accounts for cheap and griefing these lobbies. Makes it really feel bad as a player just trying to climb out of gold.
