Making M+KB mimic a gamepad is ancient tech, pretty well developed.
They detect and ban the input emulators already. People were doing that to get controller aim assist on mouse+keyboard. Aka cheating. Like you said it's ancient tech and probably easy to detect.
This isn't a good idea cause someone with an insane rig could use a controller, and get much better performance than a console player. In a competitive game when it's supposed to be fair, when half the lobby is capped at 60fps and playing from a couch, the guy getting 240 fps and low latency from his desk should clap. Obviously there are outliers, but it's best to try and keep the integrity of the ranked mode. PC with PC, console with console.
I'll point out that you can 100% do that in PC competitive. Some people have amazing rigs, some people have toasters.
1) Scarlet Witch
2) Squirrel Girl
3) Magik
4) Thor
5) Luna
Of those, Luna is the most aim intensive but I do pretty good on her. The others are either melee, lock on, or AOE artillery launchers. I've been gaming for a long time, so I have good game sense and positioning. I'd support being grouped with console players. Hell, after having played with Mouse and Keyboard players this whole time, I'd probably stomp in console only ranked lobbies lol.
I've wanted it since launch. The only way it's going to happen is if people suggest it using the in game suggestion feature and/or the suggestions thing in the Discord. The devs don't check threads here.
For the nay-sayers: It's what Paladins did for the last 10 years. It was quite nice.
And the devs are taking measures to counter input emulators, you can see such if you read the News feed.
For those that want this: use the Suggestions options, because threads here will do nothing except potentially rally other players to do so.
It will take more than a few of us asking for this as it would require them to add extra options to the game that would allow us to select input device for Ranked but block keyboard and mouse input aside from chat. Not to mention the backend work it would require.
There isn't a ton of us out there but we are definitely not alone, and now that the game added code to show the appropriate input prompts when spectating based on the person's input device, it's not hard to find the occasional controller user.
Melee characters, Scarlet Witch, Rocket, Cloak and Dagger, and Moon Knight are all popular choices for controller users.
It comes down to what you are trained against. If you are used to fighting mouse users, over time you are going to get faster and and more accurate and increase your sensitivity to keep up.
In season 3 of Paladins I was very briefly in the top 13% for controller queue. When I spent 2 full weeks playing on my Nintendo Switch because I had to RMA my mobo, my Ranking did not decrease, despite the Switch struggling hard with that game and me being used to over 300fps.
I also play tons of games that either don't have proper controller support or like this game don't separate based on input and generally don't have issues keeping up.
FPS does not matter, all that matters is personal skill and stick sensitivity. And this game provides great options for ramp up/acceleration and deadzones as well, something you rarely see in games.
