Why do people take this game so damn seriously?
Because I seriously don't get it. People are always complaining about something in this game like every match is a matter of life or death. Is this kind of toxicity exclusive to Marvel Rivals or is this behavior adopted from Overwatch?

over competitive because they don't want to lose rank, casual I have no clue
People take Marvel Rivals seriously because competitive games naturally encourage investment and strong opinions. Players dedicate time to improving, strategizing, and mastering mechanics, so when something feels unbalanced or frustrating, they voice their concerns. That doesn’t necessarily mean they see every match as “life or death”—it just means they care about the game’s balance and longevity.

This kind of discussion isn't exclusive to Marvel Rivals or Overwatch—it's common in nearly every competitive multiplayer game, from League of Legends to Apex Legends to Valorant. Competitive players want a fair and rewarding experience, and frustration often stems from feeling like certain mechanics or metas undermine that. While some people take things too far, passionate debates about balance and game design are a sign of an engaged community rather than a toxic one.

If anything, strong reactions indicate that people believe in the game’s potential. A game that no one cares about wouldn’t have heated discussions—it would just be ignored.
OP, you can find this sort of behavior in almost all competitive games. It's not exclusive to this one.

I feel like I’ve been arguing more with these people, that I’m playing the game.
I don't care about ranked, it's just more serious than quick match, it's the way "we" lose that bothers me.

When I lose, I question myself: if I'm doing the role of Tank, Support, DPS well, contrary to these people.

Just big mouths.
I wish I got these players that take the game super seriously in my matches. I get way more of the "it's just QP bro" teammates.

Which is actually why right now is a great time to get into OW if you've never played it. All of the worst elements of the OW community migrated over to Rivals. If anyone in this thread is wondering where Necros and Fats came from, they were OW streamers. The parasites have moved on to a new host.
are you throwing in ranked or getting flamed in qp?
