Not allowing Stranges Portals in Doom Match was a really dumb decision...
I presume they did it because they use those portals everywhere and don't feel it's fair that he can create his own that could potentially lead players to the one area in the map that can instant kill them. The problem here is that once you learn the map you know where these portals are and generally shouldn't fall for them unless your rushing things or not paying attention. They don't move around match to match and as people play it they'll know when one is out of place.

Also the fact that all but one of the death pits ( the one that actually has a portal in it ) have invisible walls to prevent killing or dying in those area's is a bit over the top too IMO.

This would have been the ideal place to get that dumb Dr Strange achievement for killing opponents with the portal by teleporting them into a death pit. Mostly because in normal matches you have to kind of go out of your way and be non productive with your team in most cases to actually do it. Travel to a spot where a death pit is all for a very low chance of finding someone dumb enough to fall for it. I'd consider it border line griefing a match since while you do that your team is down a player and potentially a tank.

Doom Matches are free for alls... You have no teammates to grief...

Presumably, it's a technical interaction concern, not a balance issue. What happens if he overlaps his portal with an existing portal? In the comics, that would lead to some "stuck between potential realities that never existed" story arc; in a game, that potentially leads to one player being put at invalid co-ordinates and being stuck all match or the game client straight up crashing for everyone in the server.

There's also the concern of a bunch of Dr. Stranges all placing portals and crashing the server because each open portal effectively doubles the game temporarily; even one Strange was causing serious issues during Season Zero before they slightly streamlined how the game handles two Strange portals co-existing.

Simply put, it's infinitely easier to disable the ability entirely and not worry about it than it is to make sure it follows all sorts of special placement rules and technical concerns for a temporary game mode and map.

It's more confusing why they blocked Invisible Woman's ultimate

No technical reason why, as far as I know; standard multiplayer handles 2 of them overlapping just fine, along with overlapping portals. My best guess is that it's due to the AOE being huge, the duration being long, and the self-heal allowing her to win most duels pretty handily; instead of changing any of the numbers for this one-off mode, it's easier to just ban it. Meanwhile, C&D can drop ult and deny an entire floor while sitting on the self-heal paths.
