I dont want role queue because although role numbers per team can sometimes be 1/4/1 or something like that, you can get so many combinations of roles. Role queue would most likely limit it to 2/2/2 or maybe 1/3/2. That would limit what teams can do in my opinion.
People like this game as it is for now. It may change, but doing something so drastic may cause people to leave. That might further hurt queues on top of role queue times.
I really don't understand the resistance to making role queue available for the players that would enjoy it... It's like no one else is allowed to have fun or enjoy themselves.
And
OW still alive, kicking and printing money. Ridiculous take.
Last time I looked at OW they had a 6v6 role queue but basically max 3 in any role and minimum 1, and open picks for each player. Perfectly reasonable way to implement more structured format with opportunity for flexibility in team composition and not even locked into a specific role unless last to pick.
Like with OW, if there is a role queue and they struggle to fill out a certain role, that's really a game design problem. Make the roles that are hard to get players for more fun or rewarding. Can't tell you how night and day it is to play as a support character with a team that works together and picks based on the team/enemy comp than it is to play with 5 main characters who blame you for not being able to keep up with healing or swapping from healing because you're being countered.
Blizzard killed a successful game and Role Queue heavily neutered a major aspect of it.
Now, as for OP: Hard disagree. This game is a Competitive PvP game. You can't make it less competitive without removing ranked. THAT's it.
The core of this game is Competitive. Don't like it? Play against AI.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Marvel Rivals is a competitive game. The goal is to win. Winning is fun. Losing isn't fun. Winning is above having 'fun'. Don't like that? Stick to Bots if you just wanna meme around and have fun. AI doesn't pose an actual challenge as real players do.
Yes, this is a completely blunt and careless take towards your feelings, but the core part of the game is never and should never be reduced. Competitive game.
Good job I have friends to play with. Doesn't mean I wouldn't like the option to also more likely enjoy my games when my friends, or whole group isn't available.
I have seen the debate about Role Queue rage since this game launched and I've yet to see a single compelling argument for why there shouldn't be one. Either takes that appear to hinge on "no one but me should have fun" or absolutely off the wall nonsense like:
Open queue still exists in QP and ranked formats for OW.
People who want a role queue in this game understand the trade offs in queue times, even if they complain... That said, as I said above, if a role struggles to attract players then that's a game design problem. Who's surprised most people want to DPS when there are more DPS than vanguard and strategist combined?
Because DPS is a lot easier to fill with a Super Hero/Villain roster. Deadpool being a healer ain't happening... uh... er...
LOOK, I DON'T CARE TO REMEMBER MANY MARVEL CHARACTERS, BUT MOST ARE LIKELY DPS!
It's /almost/ like they didn't think all that hard about the format of the game they were trying to produce, just "this is profitable, and with Marvel IP, it will be insanely profitable".
That, or they feel like this is a reasonable roster given OW is nearly identical in that issue and is very clearly what MR is aping.
Perhaps a bit of both.
