In competitive mode, do you get rewards for the current rank or the highest in the season?
I don't really understand the moment, where its written "Players get rewards depending on their highest rank". Which is the highest out of the two ranking stats in player's bio? There is the current rank, and the highest in the season. I'm just thinking about getting to the higher ranks to get a silver crest as well as the skin, but I don't want to spend too much time grinding for it. Is it safe if you, for example, get lowered to the silver rank after you've got to gold? Or do I have to stay on the golden (or higher) rank by the end of the season to get at least the skin?

You just need to get to gold once to be eligible for the skin.
Then you can derank or stop stop playing comp and you will get the skin.

Not sure about the crest, but seems like it works the same.
