Modding is dead... Again
Yup they fixed the workaround. D:
Now the question is how long until a new method is found?

I give it a year before the game ends up dying. this game is gonna become an example and im glad for it.

What bothers me is that the mods that I really liked were the one that skipped all the intro/start up crap so you could get back into the game quickly when it crashed-- and the one that replaced the announcer voice.

Things is, devs could EASILY add this as an option and sell announcer packs but are not doing so.

I understand them disabling mods since there's a chance of building in legit hacks, but for real, I haven't seen a single mod on nexus or other platforms that
A) copied purchasable items onto default items
B) provided unfair advantage

Option A) is just pointless to even consider, nobody will see what you see and that invalidates bragging rights, the whole point of skins. And I'm pretty sure they'll never sell pochita Jeff.
Besides, if the B) happened, wouldn't you be able to tell the guy stares into a wall too much (see through walls, is it even possible to mod an entire map?) by just watching the replay?

This game unironically benefits from mods by letting a minority group pull off things they legally cannot.

Modding?
Custom skins and sound effects.

Why would they allow modding when selling the skins is their business model?

This saddens me because this mod is lowkey GOATed

There shall be no modding in MP games unless it's officially supported. Even just unofficial (i.e. not explicitly prohibited) modding is bad. But the one where the devs openly say it's not allowed? Yeah. If I were a dev, I'd start banning everyone who complains and collect the data on those who mod it.

I mod ALL my single-player games to oblivion. Not just plug-n-play install mods, I create a lot of mods for myself or modify existing stuff to my liking. Even still - I realize that unofficial modding in the MP game is a terrible idea. And in the case of Rivals = it's clear as day why devs oppose it.

Then again, maybe NetEase took a hint from Blizzard's book and just silently collect the data to then later swipe all the offenders with a huge ban-wave.

EDIT: I take clowns on the topic of modding as a badge of honor. Because I realize that it makes those who want things for free to become angry that they must pay like everybody else. Sorry, no freebies for you. And I didn't even touch on the stuff that gives direct advantage. I'll be standing on this point for good.

Nah, stupid take. It literally doesnt matter to anyone else's gameplay so why do you care?

Cheaters are going to cheat, and cosmetic enjoyers are going to enjoy cosmetics.
I very deliberately buy skins I like to support the game, and I would like to be able to enjoy the game with mods. In fact the only reason I don't buy the Malice skin is because of the weird head piece it comes with (which is comic accurate), but there's a mod that alters the skin to remove the head piece and it looks great.

Unfortunately I'm for the compromise of making it harder for cheaters to cheat. I've seen what people do to other games, even without mods, just for the competitive advantage, and it's disgusting.

Shoutout to all the scumbags that objectively worsen the gameplay and social experience.

The problem with collecting data for a ban wave is that there's over 100.000 people who use mods, that's a lot of people who would not be able to buy cosmetics if you banned all mod users.
You mean the ones using mods to avoid buying cosmetics and/or look like something that could never be on sale anyway?

Im pretty sure people who are making skin mods for the paid skins are buying it and the ones who also want to use those mods.
Ace 11 ABR a las 8:10 p. m.
Real, shame. The only reason I bought a few skins was because some mods removed pieces on them that made them look ugly. Some of the UI stuff also made playing more convenient.

All well.
