The only games that clearly brand themselves as clones of OW are Paladins, Gundam Evolution, Exoprimal, and Rivals.
I'm sorry, but when even the UI looks exactly the same you can't sugarcoat your way out of that.
The problem is that you guys think a clone is a bad thing, when it's not. But these games are clones.
And OP you would be surprised how many games which you would think are made for children are loved and played by adults.
This game sucked in a lot of o.g Overwatch players too.
I get that they talk about rivals in the overwatch forums WAY too much but don't take it personally. The rivals hype will die off in the blizzard forums sooner or later.
Which means Overwatch is also a "rip off" of TF2.
And Paladins is also a "ripoff" of Overwatch.
The similarities:
Very similar modes. Actually basically exactly the same. Overwatch has control and escort just like RIvals. It also has deathmatch just like Rivals.
Overwatch also has abilities and ultimates.
Similar rank naming.
Overwatch also has a battlepass and a shop.
Similar cosmetic types. Skins, sprays and mvp animations.
Rivals has mvp animations, which are the same as Overwatch's POTG highlight animations.
Team chat and match chat in both. Though match chat should probably never be in any game, because it's literally only used to bm.
Now for the differences:
Overwatch was 6v6 but went 5v5 and ruined the game.
Overwatch is first person instead of third person.
Overwatch does placements for ranked while Rivals does not.
Every character in Overwatch is unique and not from every media.
Overwatch has a worse battlepass, however you do progress just by playing the game and not through missions.
Most cosmetics in Overwatch are for one of four characters: Reinhardt, Mercy, Kiriko, Genji. It's rare for some of them to get anything at all, because Blizzard realized that people buy the most skins for those four, especially Kiriko who gets the bulk of them. For now, the cosmetics in Rivals are varied and spread out, but I do worry that at some point they will realize that skins for Invisible Woman, Psylocke and Luna Snow sell more often than skins of others, and they'll do the same thing.
The maps in Rivals are objectively better. They are more unique, varied and have way more going on. The best you can hope for that's cool in an Overwatch map is some moving platform. Every Rivals map has some neat gimmick.
Rivals has destructible areas. The most you can destroy in Overwatch is some pinatas and rails which are 100% necessary to be destroyed as they block your shots.
Overwatch has equippable voicelines you can use whenever you want, Rivals does not. It is missed.
Rivals has no POTG highlight, because apparently Blizzard is disgusting and greedy and patented that because they're gross. Patenting mechanics is vile.
Rivals has an incredibly annoying and bubbly zoomer announcer that you can't turn off.
Rivals has a much better handling of the report system it seems, so far.
You can take succesful ideas and improve upon them. This game took what OW once was and improved it, while OW2 itself decided to ruin everything.
