Just put Fantastic in tank?
Nothing about this character in or out of game says damage dealer and the dps roster is already bloated.

I think he's duelist to trick the "insta lock duelist" players into playing a vanguard.

People are scared of the label not the actual play style.

I don’t think so, people are not picking him

He's all over the place in QP. I've run into him in Comp as well and the ones in Comp know what theyr'e doing and use him really well. As a Tank.

I'm still not grasping how people are coming to the conclusion that a duelist with 3 times the HP of any other duelist is "bad." Not only that but he's got a mini cap shield, spiderman's pull, bonus HP for the group, and a "stun" that let's you group enemies for quicker cleave kills.....
"B.b.b....bbbuuuuut he doesn't one shot tanks you guyz!"
Time to git gud.

He have only 350HP just like Wolverine... and have some defensive tools just like Wolverine.

He cant be Vanguard because there is unspoken rule that every Vanguard needs a bigger hitbox. Thats why Magneto is flying and Strange have a huge cloak.

Oh no... heroes have abilities. Wolverine have Healing Factor. The only problem is how fast Reed is getting it... or how slowly Wolverine is getting his because 90sec is tragic.

There is no such thing as "tank" in Rivals.

There are Vanguards, Duelists and Strategists. It's an intentional move by the Rivals team, because they want to get away from a archetypes of Tank, DPS, Heal roles in hero shooters.

Think about what each individual character are accomplishing in context of a match, instead of what their "role" implies. If anything, Captain America already doesn't fit the role archetype, because his game plan differs too much from the usual shield or brawl type of vanguards. I would describe him as persistent flanker, who have enough health and survivability to keep going over and over, not giving a second of a breather to opponents.

The more people learn how to play characters, more fluid team compositions will become and less and less people will relly on 2-2-2, because it will not make sense, based on what each individual character accomplish in the match.
But why place him in vanguard?

Literally just select him , or whoever else you want for that matter.
It's not that he's a vanguard, it's just that he was designed to make you feel cheated when you go up against a good one. It's easy for someone with even bad aim to be lethal with him, he can toggle invulnerability, and he'll randomly come back from the edge of death to suddenly have 800 hp. All the while, he's going to look like a goofy nerd doing it.
Question: What changes if Reed is labeled as a vanguard instead of a duelist?

IMO, he should get a health boost and/or a change to his ult. The ultimate should have him restrain+damage over time like a static Jeff ult just without the casting time/sound queues that make Jeff ult easy to counter.

I've been seeing him picked more than Invisible Woman the last day or so.

[https://steamcommunity.com/app/2767030/discussions/0/600767526707707108/ ] I made a new thread [/url] with a more fleshed out ult concept.
The same reason why Logan is not a Vanguard: They are NOT tanks. They are Bruisers, a close range archetype where their two defining features are: Capable of dishing out damage AND are generally tanky, usually from the use of their abilities to make them bulky in fights.

Bruisers as a concept has been around since DotA 1. Maybe even earlier than that?
