Doom Match is an interesting take on Death Match...

It's essentially a 12 player free for all, but it divides the people in two teams and the best six will be on team one while the worst are team two. The objective is to get as many final hits as possible while trying to keep your deaths low. Deaths only seem to play into account if your final hit count is tied with another, then the lower of deaths count is above the other. You win by being of the top six players, so you don't even have to get first to win, just in the top six.

The maps are small and cramped, so good close combat characters will excel here. I can see anyone that can kill characters quickly will excel here too over those who kill slowly. First match I played I actually used Jeff, mostly because his damage is decent, but his mobility options and self heal while under ground was mainly why I used him. I couldn't just yeet people off the map here as I saw no actual death pits, but I can still cripple people by holding them hostage during my ultimate and drain a good chunk of their health.

Like all Free For All matches, the best way to secure final hit KO's is to steal them from people already fighting one another. That's also where Jeff's mobility comes in handy, I can position myself and steal kills quite easily with him, the movement perks allow me to find capable targets quicker and escape bad confrontations easier.

Good Hawkeye players though are probably going to be scary... Peek corners then jump out and headshot them, ducking behind corners again right afterwards.

From the main menu, hit the "Play" button, click on "change mode" and one of the options is "Doom Match". It's essentially Free for all and the top six are the winners of the match. I didn't see it till I saw some of the missions for the new art comic thing required portals and kills in the mode, and I looked for it lol.

I'm really liking this game mode, anyone else by chance?

The map is small and cramped in areas, but the outside bit is actually quite open. It's rather well designed to allow for all heroes to have something to do, as if it was all inside the building I think Ironman would have been neutered.

One thing I do not enjoy is that it appears you cannot switch hero mid-match. On my third match (to get the required kills for the event) we had something like 5 Scarlet Witches, including me. I thought it was a bit boring and wanted to switch, but didn't appear able to. Kinda frustrating.

It's a good foundation but it needs more maps and maybe a straight 6v6 TDM mode too, or a 3v3v3v3. Or at least the option.

Peni is ridiculous btw, if you set up the nest in the right area you can just farm people walking past. Even if they know where you are most DPS can't solo a decent peni off her tower without getting netted and mined down.

Tanks honestly aren't worth engaging unless they're near death. I never 1 on 1 them unless they're already low on health. It just takes too long to kill them, and you'll probably lose unless your a tank too. Then the risk of someone else finding you and just killing both of you is rather high.

In Free 4 Alls you need to kill people quickly and move on. The faster you kill them, the better chances you won't have your kills stolen by others who stumble accross you. Very easy to tell where people are when you can easily hear them through walls and get a rough idea where they're fighting.

You can do it OK with Scarlet Witch. She gets a bonus to DPS the more health they have, so you whittle about 50% of their health down quick, then pop a stun orb and work in some of the rmb javelin things and you can take a Thor down, albeit with difficulty.

But yeah for a lot of DPS you are just a tough target generally. Add in Penis healing (I couldn't resist) with her nest and she is borderline unkillable for some characters.

6V6 TDM is kinda here in conquest, it's not exactly the same but it scratches that itch for me
