NetEase anticheat - rootkit/malware
1.) According to the ToS it only runs when the game does. The Anti-Cheat has the ability to run at all times though, it has essentially the same Read/Write privileges as Windows itself.

2.) No, uninstalling the game itself does NOT remove the A-C. Its a Kernel level driver and requires a bit of technical know-how to uninstall.

Essentially its a root-kit that they claim they won't use to spy on you, despite it quite literally being one of the most efficient types of programs to do so, and originates form a surveillance state.

All modern Anti Cheats are kernel level and do the same thing.

In fact, most of them are far more intrusive and demanding than this one.

Riot's anti-cheat is the worst offender of them all.

I just installed the game and it's patching, is it too late to remove this rootkit? How do I remove it? I'm not too into the overwatch type of gameplay anyway so don't mind not playing.

idk man, you need more than indian tech support to remove that..

I tried this game few weeka ago and it felt like nothingburger.. overhyped garbage if you ask me.. TF2 was somehting back in the day.. but nowadays they just pump and dump garbage one after the other.. and always tries to copy each other.. like .. do we really need overwatch alternatives (i dont even have played that game ever becasue of blizzard shenanighans)

1) This is partially incorrect as Windows itself is a series of components with varying levels of access, almost all are usermode and a handful of services operate in true kernelmode. And yes, the netease anticheat only runs while ingame. You can view this in your process list. Kernelmode stuff doesn't hide from the process list.

2) The uninstaller does as the game folder is entirely removed and the anticheat is launched from within that folder.

no its not you know nothing. If it was it wouldnt be able to:

People have been harping on about how bad this is for years, yet there’s never been an issue. I don’t get it.

Don't let OP scare you; they have no idea what they are talking about. Try the game and if you like it cool, and if not, uninstall. In either case you can sleep easy at night.

just wait until you realize how many players in ranked are AI. The game was made in a totalitarian dystopia.

It's because there is the potential of it either being abused by the developer, or if the signing key used gets stolen or accidentally leaked leading to whoever obtains it being able to sign software which would be seen as 'official'. It happened to Genshin some years back but luckily nothing bad came about from it (to my knowledge)
