You should also be asking why everything rips off Evangelion. Hell Marvel has the only Eva ripoff that wasn't a commercial failure.

Well one of the main inspirations for the character Peni Parker was Neon genesis Evangelion as you can see the mech design is similar to the EVAs. Particularly the themes and the amount of stuff both the protagonist of the original anime and the way she is written. As for why she is in the game I do not know. Hope this helps with understanding why their is Neon Genesis Evangelion in Marvel Rivals.
