What is an independent tank?

Specifically, what tanks can work with minimal healing or when you have bad healers?

Really just penny, she has good built-in healing and a 3 second stun to get people off her.
All of the others can't heal for **** and if you do well with them solo it just means the enemy team was bad.

Dr Strange is probably the closest, since his shield recharges when not in use and you can just duck behind cover when not using it.

none of them are good for tanking without a healer. Venom and thor essentially act as flankers and not tank, so like any flanking DPS they will rely on picking up health packs. However if you are doing the whole flanking and grabbing health pack playstyle you arent tanking. To be fair though, neither Venom or Thor are actually very good at the tank role anyhow. Solo tanking with either of those characters doesnt typically work well unless your team is full of diving duelists.

edit: I should also mention that thor can be rezzed by Hela getting a kill, which helps him when there is no healer around, however generally speaking if your team is 6 duelists just expect to lose. A vanguard and 5 duelists isnt going to win, if anything go strategist if they other 5 idiots all insta lock duelists and dont wanna play to win. Loki in particular is probably your best bet, again Hela can rez him, plus he is strong against diving heroes, eith the exception of black panther. So yeah as loki just focus on the objective and keeping yourself alive and heal the duelists when you can. But yeah the odds wont be in your favor.

I'd say Strange or Groot or Ironically Loki with his '750 hp + immortality shield + cloak = a tank'. But that's only because Loki clone's have 250 hp and are pretty disposable and he can also swap between them. And if you have a tank without much heals, or it's a feeder tank.

The idea of 'taking damage to protect your team', followed by the enemy team charging a team killing ult like Starlord / Psylock / Punisher / Luna snow / Mantis can be a deadly one.

Groot can technically grant himself like 100-250 bonus health by attacking targets near his big wall, but it's unreliable. but he has good shields.

Dr strange is fairly tanky.

Namor, despite being a dps, often shows up at gm when hela is banned for actually being quite close to her, unlimited ammo, turrets, he forces enemies to shoot the ocotopues and if he's shot, despite 250 hp, his shift is a peel for 3s that allows healers to have 3s vs 1s to top you off. Mileage still varies.

Venom also technically can gain 1 hp per hp missing, but i'd say venom and Thor / Captain america are heal guzzlers. All heros have their masters, but i find as a healer main that many venom players and bad caps can tend to flame and demand heals like crazy.

While feeding crazy amounts of ult charge to teams as 'tanking' if healbotted for the 40% wr 27-35k healing Luna/Jeff healbotted games vs 55-60% wr 5-15k dmg, 20-27k healing Mantis games.

While in overwatch you'd be mad to run a tank, when i see a lobby with say, a spiderman / Iron fist / Iron man / Star lord / Mantis / Cloak and dagger comp. And i hear someone go "Omg guys, we need a tank!", and they pick facetanking Venom or captain america with Mantis/Cloak. I give out a audible grown over 5th dps.

If you have a Luna/Jeff on your team, their healing can go crazy and you can go crazy on 2 tanks, No guarentee if you'll win, but they are the best numbers for raw healing.

There isn't really a roadhog/sigma sustain level tank in Marvel rivals yet that self sustains though. Groot is the only 'one' with tiny shields form his wall, and it's.. pretty negliable.

Dr. Strange, according to Marvel Rivals, is the top most picked character at Plat and above ranks. That means he is the most picked over every other character from every other role.

Swap to heals/dps and kill their teams healers.
Bonus points for going Squirrel girl and blowing up the back line.

Honestly i could go for some self healing tanks or passives like wolverine/deadpool. Comic book accuracy and role defining is fun, and Roadhog was a balance dilemna. (Unbalanced 1v1s / deathmatches, fed ults, solo heals + solo 1 shots + fed ults that killed team.)

But i wouldn't complain if Groot, ever got a regrowth passive or overwatch 2 style hp regen was added to dps/tanks/supports globally. Not fast enough to mess with break points ( like sub 2-5 seconds), but enough to heal after 10s-15s out of combat.

In overwatch we worried it'd break tracer and Pharah. Turned out Mobile heros like Echo who could dive for cover and bomb + burst people then fly over a wall became meta, but people enjoyed the switch up actually.

I could see spider mans and Venoms / Penis using it. But Peni already like never uses her abilities to dangle on walls, why not?

It's fun and it prevents gameplay of sitting in a corner for 30s on 20/250 hp, only to die to a missed shot.

Thor, Venom and Peni basically (maybe Cap). Although no Vanguard is good for tanking without external healing, the ones with mobility can make use of health packs better.

Are you asking for the best tank that doesn't rely on a support much? Then it's without a doubt Thor.

If you're asking for a tank that doesn't require a healer, then it's none. Every player that's not wood tier know's support is the back bone to a team

You won't kill ♥♥♥♥ if you're dead all the time. 2 Heals are almost mandatory every game.
