Doesn't really matter in Diamond up since hes pretty much permabanned, but him being permabanned cause of his team up and not him is kinda insane.
I guess knowing when to use his ultimates to transform too. Since you can use them to instantly replenish your health when it's low. Which is generally the best time to use them. ( as well as use the Iframes during the transformations of course )
Hulk honestly has a high skill ceiling, if the Hulk player knows how to use his kit right he can deny a lot of ultimates and can potentially go a crazy amount of time without dying (if healers are doing good).
Most people don't know how to play him that well, but he can honestly carry pretty hard if the player is good at him.
I forgot to add though that the fact that you can play as unhulked banner is an entirely different skill set himself too. He's actually can be pretty decent if played well, then you can reserve your hulk transformation for when you need it. The grenades are nice for pushing people around and his pistol can be spammed for ranged damage.
Like hulk's transform up to slightly bigger hulk ( lol ), Banner also gains all his health back when transforming to regular hulk.
So yeah, I will give it that there is a little bit more depth to him then I mentioned above.
I do still feel he's a little too simple. But it's difficult to say what... Maybe if they gave him the ability to pick up and toss objects ( besides Wolverine lol ) perhaps? Instead of that gamma blast ( or an option to toss an object instead of that gamma blast when near them ) perhaps?
The problem is people play this like it's Overwatch and not Paladins.
