New Player Here! Any tips / advice?
Hello! I'm a brand new player that's looking for advice / tips to maximize my value to my team. I have no experience with Overwatch.

An easy-to-pick up character appears to be The Punisher. However, I'm open to all views and opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Cloak and Dagger are a rather accessible option due to their auto-aim capabilities, meaning that missing your healing shots is practically impossible. You'll pick up on when to optimally switch between the two, such as using Dagger's right click to place a healing bubble before switching so your team doesn't lose a healer for a bit.
you don't need overwatch experience, that game is severely overrated. Pick a character you find cool/hot, read up on their abilities and have fun, the value you bring is what you've learned and apply with any given character. Just have fun.

Play to have fun, obviously, but don't be afraid to try a tank or healer. Most of the time they are lacking on a team and getting good with them can be very helpful.

But above all, if you're doing poorly, don't just blame your team or bad luck. Use a little self reflection. Don't worry about what your team does and just focus on getting better yourself. The wins will follow.
If you have hard time noticing audio cues for abilities, consider turning on all subtitles in settings. Getting all voice cues for ultimates as text makes reacting to them easier.

As for performance tips: reduce any LUMEN settings as low as possible. (global illumination especially).

Dont pay any attention to the star rating system for the heroes, its not accurate at all. Some characters that have 5 stars should be one star and some that are one star should be 5. Psylocke is rated 5 Star difficulty, but, I find her one of the best characters to play in the game.

Just, try out a load of characters, find one that you feel comfortable playing with and go from there. I mean I never saw myself being a Squirrel Girl, Psylocke and Mantis main, but...I am and I am having a blast.

Pick up one character first from at least each different roles.
Usually Heals is the best to start because your journey is to be better at the game, this Role is going to help you learn positioning and 1v1 pretty fast.
Aiming is a little to the right.
Don't be afraid of Practice range and re-mapping keys and over-all practicing characters enough to feel confident going in live.
Try out some characters abilities in practice range and find one you think you'll like. Healers are a must and Jeff the Land Shark is an easy to use and effective one
