Is it still bannable to use custom skins?
I saw a tiktok with a CJ skin for winder soldier and I wanna try it out, but I'm afraid of getting banned.

I mean, probably.
I wouldn't risk it. Buuuuuut if you still want to, I would use an alt account just in case.

They really want you to spend over $20 on a Skin.
Go ahead try it. If you get banned then you know the answer.

Most skins are 18 or less.

It will always be bannable. You'll likely be marked for unusual game data and be flagged as cheating, since you would be attempting to alter/circumvent the game files.
Third Party tools and manipulation on the gamefiles will lead to a ban. This is not something new, thats a ToS Rule which a lot of online game has and is standard on competitive online games to punish cheating.

Pretty sure they don't allow you to spend exactly $18 when purchasing their monopoly money obfuscation scheme.

$18 is also way too much. No cosmetic should cost the price of a whole ass game.

First off, you can buy $1 at a time.
When I bought the Master of the Sun skin I spent exactly $16 (plus state tax of course)

If the game was paid I would agree. Hell even a couple years ago I would have agreed, but inflation is a thing and many players will only buy 1-2 skins because they only play a couple characters.

And that 18 does get you a skin, nameplate, emote, and spray. It's only like 14 if you want just the skin (typically; obviously there's some exceptions and fluctuations)

Surely the insane, needless tedium of this process isn't in place to nudge consumers towards just spending $20 at once instead of making 18 individual purchases.

Stop using inflation as an excuse. There are more people playing games now than there ever were.

Cosmetics cost this much because they've specifically designed the game to be subsidized by whales who are psychologically vulnerable to this kind of spending.
its not worth the risk man

This. Cool skin or not, never worth a ban over it. Especially in games where they're actively looking for third-party apps and such.
Cut out a picture from your favorite comic and tape it to your screen. Boom, no bans custom skin.

I saw a tiktok video where someone got a Dr. Pepper skin as another skin that I forgot the name of, and ever since I've actually seen that video, I've been wanting to try it, but I'm not sure if it's bankable or not.
