Yeah if you're a support you can't do much and if you're a tank you can't do anything.
I mean, you COULD change to Adam Warlock, his primary cuts flyers to pieces.
But you pay for that by being kind of a crappy healer.
I also dont understand why they made a flying hero that counters other flying heroes. "Haha buffed hitscan beam goes brrrr"
Warlock and Luna do not "cut fliers to pieces". They are the supports that can actually combat fliers at all. Realistically you're not going to take down a flier with actual team support with Warlock or Luna. I mean I kill unsupported fliers with Luna all the time, but it doesn't work when they're an actual threat with backup.
But yes, you are right. If the team is supporting the fliers properly, meanwhile your team isn't supporting you in attacking the fliers (probably because you're stuck with a melee-heavy comp), you're screwed. This is a lame, Overwatch-style hard counter where the only option is to switch, and when you have this in a game full of one tricks you're in for a bad time.
Honestly the problem with fliers in this game is the range. Fliers with infinite range that can bombard chokes and just be uncontestable artillery are a huge problem, that's why Pharah was so toxic. They need to give fliers limited range so you have to take them close enough for characters that have projectiles to be able to contest.
That's why Star-Lord isn't a problem and the others are - Star-Lord has to fight you from a range you can actually fight him at.
Likewise in OW Pharah is a poorly designed, toxic hero and Echo isn't, because Echo doesn't have unlimited range.
