I am running an RTX 3080 which is definitely not high end by today's standards and the game runs extremely smooth for me. Never crashed once.
Also if you bought a cheap gpu (as in refurbished or a from less than reputable vendor) they might have sent you a defective or wrong card. There are a lot of hardware scammers out there especially when it comes to GPUs. Additionally, if you really did use 'the stuff I had already' did you check for any hardware / driver conflicts? 'Frankensteining' older hardware with new can present issues as well when it comes to drivers/firmware version requirements and support.
Without your full hardware specs and nothing else you go on your rhetoric, you really don't give anybody anything to be sufficiently convinced that it is a game issue. Windows users are notorious for having un-optimized systems, tons of crapware running, bad hardware - yet their problems are always somebody or something else's fault.
