Actual hot take: Marvel Rivals vs. Overwatch
I've mused it over in my head sometime, and have come to the conclusion that the best future going forward would be the continued existence of overwatch, and vice versa. I know its become the cool thing to dog pile on overwatch, and I myself have no interest or investment in that game. With that being said, I do enjoy Marvel Rivals, and want to see it prosper for many years. However, we've seen time and time again when companies are given an inch they take leaps and bounds. There's just no good result for the customer when a company corners the market. I understand we're still in the honeymoon phase, but if you really believe netease would never try to inflate skin prices, increase micro-transactions, or some other egregious, predatory ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you're either naive or stupid, 2 sides of the same sucker coin. It could be something as mundane as printer ink or as life saving as insulin, these companies live and breathe profit and to an extant that's to be expected. It probably cost 8 figures just to run maintenance for these major corps, so they may need triple figures in order to substantiate their existence. With that being said, you get no love from me if your continued existence means a detriment to mine, and that should be true for everyone with any amount of self respect or ATLEAST self preservation. This is where Overwatch comes in, a actual threat that could help keep a lit fire under netease, just like they've done to blizzard. When 2 companies are constantly at each others throat racing to to provide the ultimate experience for the customer, the only real winners are us. It only when one begins to supersede the other when the hierarchy of power begins to shift, and as history shows, it tends to be in favor of the one holding all the cards. I'll give the devs a benefit of doubt, maybe they are loyal to the people and earnest at heart. Even if they are, it's the people behind them, the actual top execs who call the shots and have the final say, we should be worried about. I hope I'm wrong on this take, but going off experience, this is typically how these things play out. I've played these games before after all. (Team fortress 2)

TLDR: Competition is good for the consumer.

They're actually doing something really neat to help make skins more obtainable.

They're giving players a chance to obtain credits (the blue currency you need for skins) for free using the chronos (the purple currency you get from missions).

Granted, you have to buy the luxury battlepass to be eligible for the currency exchange at the end of the season at a defined ratio. I do not know the ratio for the exchange as of writing this. So take it how you will that the only way to get this feature is to buy the 15 dollar battlepass version every season .

Personally, I think this is nice since there's still 50 days in the season and I only need one more page to complete the whole battlepass. So I'll just rack up a ton of chronos and once it's all said and done hopefully I'll be able to afford a legendary skin for essentially free once the exchange happens.

There different games who's only real similarities lie the reasons as to why they are awful games..

Whether we're talking about tf2,overwatch, paladins, or rivals, it's the same thing..

All of them are or have become cash grabs that prey upon the ignorant. In very deceptive and manipulative ways

The skin prices RN are fine, but that doesn't mean they won't be increased in the future. Also the conversion rate is 100 units for 1000 chrono tokens, you also have to buy the luxury battle pass, which is also fine.

No, Tf2 despite what the community wants to believe was never really competing with overwatch. One had a active dev team, the other barely maintained by a skeleton crew, pretty open and shut. With Rivals, many of the mechanics and format is shared with overwatch, enough for many players to make the leap. I personally don't like the constant comparisons because I have no feelings for overwatch, but I can see the connection. Don't know anything about paladins, from what I did hear it's a dead fish in running water.
