New NETEASE connections to mainland China as of today?
BIG EDIT: As of late Tuesday evening...they removed this IP connection requirement (at least for now)!

With confirmation of the US portions of the developer team being let go, now the game is SUDDENLY requiring connectivity to mainland China (103.71.201.4 / nie.netease.com) even when you're on US only servers...I'm honestly concerned.

Why is the game only now FORCING a bi-directional connection to China. I'm getting blocked from joining every game if this newly required Chinese server can't connect to me?!? WHY?

I can confirm temporarily unblocking the IP allows me to join Rivals games again.

It's technical...you want me to post images and netflows to IMGUR or something?
If you knew anything about computers, or had any network monitoring hardware, you too could easily confirm this. I specified the IP and FQDN, but I'm sure you have no idea what those even are.

I was able to join a match after I (temporarily) unblocked the Chinese IP.

oh wow, didnt know those acronyms, .. hm and sure as hell dont have networking monitoring software, but ill take your word at face value. I unistalled about 2 weeks ago.

My question is, would that affect latency? or something worse? privacy?

Thanks im genuinely curious.

Likely privacy or new code running on end user systems...but since it has not been required previously (I know because I'm only connected to US servers in the settings) and always block and alert on all traffic in/outbound to China, I'm confirming this to be new network activity which Netease did NOT utilize previously. Had there been required connectivity to China on day 1, I never would have even played a single round on my PC. I didn't reverse engineer anything in the Netease software, I'm solely focused on the change in patterns of connectivity since release.

I would like more research done into this and this brought up to some big Twitter accounts to repost for visibility.
Sneaky Chinese! Only Elon Musk is allowed to steal my sensitive personal data.
