Kill/Death/Assist How are assists gained/tracked?
I've played many competitive pvp games, league, overwatch 1 and 2, paladins, and more.
Obviously I know how K/D/A typically work... but how it works in OW vs LoL is very different. I have found especially so in this game

What I'm asking is how are assists tracked/gathered in this game? Sometimes it is heal the ally who killed the enemy in a small time window.. sometimes it is help deal damage within a certain window of time of the kill.

I'm asking because I play with a lot of people and sometimes several of us will have 0 assists, even though we play as a team. I have a Wanda player for instance who dies 0-3 times avg per game and gets insane elims, and almost always 0 assists.

I play strategist, recently did 14/0/31 in a game. Obviously I am getting assists because of healing and boosting my team/inhibiting the enemy team.

Are some heroes just unable to get assists due to their kit? Or is it just this Wanda player of mine getting the last hit so consistently they almost never have assists.

On the same line, how am I getting "kills" and later on finding out I didnt get 100% last hit ratio to my kill number.. For instance I can go like, 12/2/18 and have 7 last hits. It is rather odd score tracking

I have a really high opinion of this game, and my only major complaints is sometimes sitting at 99% loading rate for, an abnormally long time and the lack of clear definition of rules like how scores are acquired as mentioned above.

TLDR:
What events qualify an assist gained if you don't get the last hit.

Healing someone while they get a kill = assist

That is not true. I play Spidey, and get assists all the time. I can't heal people with him, and healing myself shouldn't give me an assist, but a kill.

Now, what DOES grant an assist is providing utility or heals to someone in need.
For example:
  • As a strategist, if you heal someone who is fighting someone, and they were to die without those heals and end up killing them, that gets you an assist.
    • Because without you, they couldn't get the kill.

Now this other part does have stuff to do with their kit.
  • If someone's kit has utility, like Spidey's Ult, then you can get an assist. Spidey's ult does a lot of damage, and towards the end it shoots out webs that immobilize the enemies.
    • If someone on your team gets the kill, you'd get an assist.

I don't know if assists like that also count as kills. I haven't tested it. If I come around to it, I will return here to give my results.

Now, for the kills not equaling your last hits:
  • If you've done enough damage to someone that helps a teammate secure the kill, then you get a kill, not an assist (because you provided no utility or heals for it to).
For Example:
  • If you are shooting a 250 hp hero, deal 150 damage, then your teammate does 150 damage, he would get a kill and a final hit, while you would just get a kill.
    • I do not know if it has to be enough to confirm the kill or you just have to damage them. Like if you did 50 damage, but your teammate did 250, I do not know if it would give you kill credit. I might test this too and come back.

TLDR:

So all in short, you get assists by providing necessary heals or utility. Kills are counted if you deal damage, not if you get the final hit.

I might test a couple of things to provide a clearer answer, but I also might not. You can always do it yourself if you want to know.

Assists are healing and buffs/debuffs during kills.
As Storm I get more assists than the healers often

I think Damage Blocked is a misnomer and it should be Damage Taken + Damage Shielded.

Consistently, and with Star-Lord specifically, I have died and checked the scoreboard after first death and had exactly 250 damage blocked, which is also his HP.
