loading into games takes forever
i only load into the screen where i pick my character after the game has already started, often after people have already started fighting. why is it so slow, how to fix?

If it's an SSD is it a NVME or SATA?
hdd. never had an issue with mp games on it before though
Yea so I have bad news for you.

I too try to put everything I can on my 6TB HDD.
This game just does not perform well on an HDD, and needs an SSD. One of my first matches I literally got kicked from the match for being idle because it took too long to load from the HDD. Never had that problem once I moved it to the NVME SSD.

I have literally hundreds of games and only maybe a dozen need the SSD to be playable; unfortunately this is one of them.

I hope the devs take note and fix this soon. The amount of people having to deal with this is staggering.

what's really funny is this was literally a problem when the beta was out and they just decided to... not fix it? or optimize it any better?

Yes. SSD is now the new norm. I used to be an HDD user as well until I started encountering games that has a hard time on HDDs. Bought SSDs and converted my old HDD into Storage for files, videos etc.

I still have the majority of my 220+ installed games on my HDD (I have over 800 but only about 220 installed at any given time) and as long as I don't crank things like textures or anything requiring lots of shaders like post processing too high, they all run fine.
All the ones that needed an SSD are terribly optimized ones like Jedi Survivor or the early days of Palworld or Diablo 4.
There's some I have on there just because I want shorter load times, like Sea OF Thieves or Flight Sim 2020, but very few actually need it.

It's really gross how many devs are relying on SSDs and DLSS/FSR rather than just writing optimized code, but such is the state of modern gaming.

Idk if you looked at or care about Monster Hunter Wilds, but the Minimum System Requirements on the store page are sickening.

That's the reason right there. Recommended specs say to put it on a SSD.

I put this game on my ssd after having this loading issue when it was on my hdd, but I still have this issue. I don't know why this is happening. I don't know what other component on my system could be causing this. The game runs perfectly smooth once I actually load into a match.
