And before controller users or crossplay defenders say anything, splitting matchmaking into input-based lobbies should be always done. Having controller user in my kb/m lobby for example ruins balance, and vice-versa.
First thing : Aim assist was first a cheat develloped in quake back in the day, a cheat who get popularity in console to " help " bad players and give them an enjoyable experience with less efforts as possible.
In fact Aim assist is fine when everyone can have it and play on the same input, like on console.
The real problem is when it's come to play with differents inputs : Yes a KBM player is faster, but faster doesn't mean better, in fact we have to do all those micro adjustment constantly who require alot of concient focus.
A kid with a controller can't flick, but can track perfectly a moving target as the same of some aimgod who play kovaak 3 hours a day and play KBM for over 20 years.
So yes a KBM player with expercience will be better as a controller player, but not beacause of the input, only because of the experience.
A test was make on MW2019 > 1 good player with controller and one of the best aimer of kovaak on the voltaic team. The controller player smashed the kovaak player even if this last one have a better vision of the game and react faster with KBM.
The controller player have 1 year of experience in FPS games, the second one, 23 years on KBM and was a pro player in CSGO and overwatch.
So if at this stage it's unclear for you, AIM assist need to stay on console and we don't need crossplay ♥♥♥♥.
Everyone one need to stay where they are.
You go play controller with no aim assist, I’ll wait.
Then go use controller with no aim assist against a good MK user. We’ll see how bad you are.
I like sniping in a lot of games and it tends to ruin headshots.
I also play a lot of games that don't have controller support, with a controller.
Also many Ranked games, whether they have input based matchmaking or not, will disable Aim Assist in Ranked modes but allow it in casuals; Paladins is a perfect example of this.
That said, I still wish they had input based matchmaking. I peaked in the top 13% in Paladins season 3, so I know I'm far better than the average controller user, and I would love to trounce them again; facing keyboard and mouse users has the playing field too level for me.
If you want to get better on controller with no aim assist, learn to dial in your sensitivity, deadzones, and acceleration. Also increase your sensitivity over time, every couple weeks turn it up a notch or two as you get used to each one.
