Game is f2p. You get to play all the characters for free. But devs need to make money somehow hence the highly priced skins,

I wouldn't mind paying $1 per 100 points, its the fact that the currency conversion is insanely bad for this

If I were to buy the smaller packs, $10USD + $5USD + $1USD, that's still $25AUD + taxes
