How would they feel? What are the chances that they can win the match with one less person on the team? Is it fair for them if the person leaving (whether intentional or not) is not penalized?
It's a team game first and foremost.
It's a case of those 5 team mates not caring how it happen, all they know is that their game is ruined and you were the cause of it. Wither it's being a crash or you disconnecting or alt+f4ing is irrelevant, their match is now ruined and that's all that matters. Since there is more of them then there are you, the Dev's will more likely listen to them far before they consider even taking your opinion.
That's just how it works
Never said I was OK with anything, only that this is how they feel it has to be.
Second, it's because there's ways to crash games purposely to get out of matches early so they can move into new matches quicker. People do this to try and get around being penalized and because of them is probably the reason you are getting punished if it only happened a few times to you. You can thank them for this situation that they had to force their hand and make it that leaving for any reason can result in being punished for it.
The only thing you can do is see if anything is causing it on your end and reduce the chances of your game crashing. I pretty much never crash, even with this old set up I use. If I can, then I feel that it should be possible for anyone to experience it like I do with a little effort.
