Why don't I ever connect to my local server?

I have Oregon set for my local server area, with a 35 ping. But in games I usually get 60-80 and sometimes almost 100, which matches Dallas and Virginia (respectively). I do get games with consistent 30 ping, which I think is when I actually get Oregon games, so I think I do get 30 ping in Oregon, but I think I mostly don't get games from those servers.

Any idea what's going on here?

Ping isn't static. It fluctuates constantly.

I know how ping works. But I get perfect 30 ping games, and the other two game 'clusters' match the other two server locations. I'm pretty sure 90% of my games are in dallas.

If you don't have Dallas checked, then it's highly unlikely. There doesn't seem to be a shunt mechanism (read: there doesn't seem to be a means of offloading a player to a server they do not have selected).

You do have just Oregon checked, correct?

Yeah, of course. But I haven't gotten a 30 ping game all night, while the Oregon servers show 30.

I get 30 ping games sometimes... just not tonight.

You know tonight's last day of tax season, yeah? Same as every year, net's gonna be gunked up with last-second filers. Should clear up in a few hours, at least on that end. But that's probably it. I had to switch off of N Va to Dallas tonight, personally. N Va keeps fluxing between 40 and 120. Dallas is most stable for me on my connection path.

If you're out West, you have fewer connection paths and can be affected more by traffic surge than others. My area has paths all around us, so I'm less affected.
