The Problem with Rocket Players and Their Playstyle - Another Rant, but by a Lord Rocket
I doubt this will get read, but I have to say it—most Rocket players are incredibly underwhelming and seem allergic to using their left mouse button. I recently watched a streamer climbing to Grandmaster, and despite his high rank, he wasn’t even fully engaged. He was casually eating chips while pressing right-click, barely making an effort.

This lack of engagement is a widespread issue among Rocket players. They rely almost entirely on their healing abilities but refuse to put in even a fraction more effort to optimize their performance. You can achieve the same—or even better—burst healing using CnD, but that would require about 2% more engagement. Unfortunately, many players seem unwilling to make that small adjustment. Instead, they beg for a third support when they realize they can’t keep their team alive during engagements. The issue isn’t the number of healers—it’s the lack of proper play. More often than not, the second healer is running Mantis or something equally ineffective in those situations.

I say all of this as someone who has reached the Lord rank on Jeff, CnD, and Rocket. I also have mild experience with Mantis and Adam, so I understand the role of healers and their impact on team fights. When I play Rocket, I do admit that I tend to have slightly more deaths than others. However, this is because I play aggressively, positioning myself closer to the front lines to ensure that enemy tanks get shredded. When I use my ultimate, I make sure those tanks don’t survive. My highest damage achieved with Rocket is 12,500, and even when playing conservatively, I will always hover around 4,000. If my damage is lower than that, it’s usually due to a team difference—either in our favor or against us.

This passive playstyle among Rocket players is my biggest gripe. They refuse to use their primary fire effectively, reducing their overall impact in fights. On top of that, they tend to be terrible when paired with Jeff as a second healer, which happens to be my favorite support to play. I also dislike playing double healer compositions with Luna/Jeff for the same reason. Yes, I understand the argument that it's a "great team-up for flank Jeff," but even in that scenario, I run into problems. Players waste Jeff’s bubbles on unnecessary speed boosts instead of properly utilizing them for healing and sustain. This poor resource management makes it frustrating to play efficiently in a support role.

Ultimately, the issue isn’t just Rocket as a character—it’s how the majority of players approach playing them. They refuse to engage with their full kit, fail to adapt to their team’s needs, and often expect external solutions rather than improving their own gameplay. If Rocket players put in even a little more effort, their performance would skyrocket. Until then, I’ll keep watching them struggle, wondering why they refuse to press left-click.

Yeah, I spent the full 45 minutes writing that essay expecting so. You really can shoot 2/4 balls, shoot primary, shot balls etc, shoot... reload.
I think the reason is quite simple, right click rocket is quite literally just mercy from overwatch, some people just enjoy playing a healbot with good mobility
The last hero player shooter I played was TF2, I liked going medic on quickfix following scout and other times playing with another medic (who would with me aggressive hunt down others / heal the other) switching to melee targets. I'd never refuse the chance to fight someone in a melee.

Well, these only-right-klickers simply either didnt understand the character or simply dont care at all.
See, i probably have less hours than anyone in this thread, since i started just a few days ago PLUS, i usually dont even play hero shooters.
However, Rocket was the first Character i played, and after looking at his kit, fooling around on the test-map and about two random-matches, i understood what i had to do.
I mean, i dont have much experience with this kind of shooter and are probably pretty bad at it but then again you dont need a PHD to learn these characters.
I have yet to see a Rocket-Player being this bad but yes, OP is right. Rockets place is not far behind, its there where you can put his gun to good use.
From another Rocket lord, yes. I do agree that there is plenty of time for Rocket to help out with Damage in between shots. You're going to have to learn to defend yourself at times as well. Focusing on enemies that are usually focusing on your teammates is the most ideal time IMO. Killing off enemy pets is a good opportunity to fire your mini gun as it lets your teammates focus on actual enemies to.

I do feel though that keeping the teams health up high though is the higher priority, as well as staying alive so your BRB doesn't get auto-trashed when you do.
