The Hulk can initiate and disengage by himself, The Thing needs a CD to go in, and also a CD and his team being nearby to run.
Hulk's ult forces your enemies to look at him transform and go "not again", The Thing's ult is very easy to interrupt.
The Hulk's gamma shield can protect everyone nearby, even survive AoE ults, The Thing's shift only reduces damage for one team mate and yourself.
The Hulk can chase the ♥♥♥♥ out of anyone, The Thing is very easy to kite if his charge is on CD.
The Hulk has a CC, The Thing doesn't.
The Hulk has a ranged attack, The Thing doesn't.
I love The Thing and he's my main vanguard pick right now, but he plays a very different role. Sometimes I still have to bring Hulk out.
