I’m considering getting some screen caps of it in action because of how frustrating it has become so I can try to figure out if there is something I’m missing. I didn’t know about the Dr. Freak shield thing but that would explain a lot because thinking back on the last few matches there is always one on the enemy team. Do you happen to know if that just nullifies Hawkeye Ult for all teammates in range of the shield or just him, because that could explain a lot.
I will say aside from this one bug, and my long load times because I didn’t know it worked better installed on an SSD… the game has been very stable and the first hero shooter I’ve enjoyed. The characters feel well balanced aside from a few that will always dominate in the hands of sweats, but that’s why I avoid ranked.

Haven’t played Hawkeye much since this post but it seems like it is still unfixed if it is a bug. But my experience was the same of it only working maybe 15-25% of the time in the way I have seen work in kill replays from other Hawkeyes. Is yours inconsistent like mine was? Did you have times were it worked for 1s at the start then suddenly seemed like it cancelled, or not work till the last second of the timer. Or they randomly disappeared on enemies that were In sight the whole time?
The silhouettes still usually appear but shooting them seems to only do damage to an enemy a fraction of the time. It does sometimes seem that at the start I can shoot one and it works, but after that it seems to not work. I do main Hawkeye and have maxed out his rank so I have dealt with this for many hours. Many times I don't even pop his ult because it rarely works well and you can't see red enemy outlines when using it, making it easier to die.
Hmmm that’s different than what I have happening. Again I’m still not sure if this is a bug related to specific pieces of my hardware, my GPU drivers are up to date so I don’t think it is a purely visual bug, or coding bug that only affects some players. After the patch I may give it a shot and see if this was stealth patched or still in game. It could also just be an intended mechanic of Dr. Freak having 2 tools that cancel Ults. He is very frequent on enemy teams and it could just be that people pick him specifically to stop Hawkeyes from having any use of their Ult. I’m just trying to figure out what it is because it doesn’t have consistency in my case, and if it is an intended mechanic then I can learn to adapt but I gotta know what is causing it to be able to do that.

This first part of the comment is to explain the purpose of me performing these tests.
I am extremely appreciative of feedback and also increased testing to enhance or understanding of this character's complex ultimate ability.
I have had the exact same issue as the other comments on this thread. His after images almost never seem to show up only about 25 percent of the time. I have done some research in the firing range, but the results were pretty inconclusive. here are the issues I've found, and I would love all the help I can get on this issue and if it really is a bug of a feature that we are missing.
1.) I have seen that in the firing range when I use the ultimate ability it works almost EXACTLY as intended minus 1 thing. the actual description in the steam page says the after images last 3 seconds however in the firing range it seems to last MUCH longer than they do in matches.
2.) Each character drops anywhere from 3 to 8 after images before they disappear in the firing range. However, in actual games they RARELY drop more than 4 or 5. I consistently only get 1-3 on squishies (which is Hawkeye's MAIN TARGET)
3.) There is definitely a range that his ability works at however again it seems to VARY whether you are in the firing range or an actual game. I haven't found any details about exact distances it works at in game or not. However, the farthest distance in the firing range seems to struggle with the ability sometimes.
4.) there is an element of line of sight, but it is SUPER blurry what that means because in the firing range I look at the wall at 20-40M. Standing at the center of the fire line and I still get after images. I physically have to turn almost completely around for the after images to disappear. HOWEVER again in Game I could be staring STRAIGHT AT AN ENEMY 10M AWAY and not get a single after image of the stupid squishy attacking me. Despite this Tanks seem to have way more after images than the smaller ones. (Ill admit that in this case study specifically i could be mistaken due to the fact that tanks are obviously larger and thus the after images are larger.)
TESTS NEEDED TO BE CONDUCTED
#1 TIME TESTS
#1.1Time after-image lasts from creation in DIRECT line of sight (Aiming straight at opponent for the full duration of the ultimate)
#1.2 Time after-image lasts from Creation in PARTIALLY DIRECT line of sight (Looking in general Direction of opponent for the full duration of the ultimate)
#1.3 Time after-image lasts from Creation with PARTIAL line of sight (Looking at an opponent from an angle of greater than approximately 45 degrees)
#1.3.1 Same test as test 3 but increasing the angle of sight of opponent
#2 COVER TEST
#2.1 Time after-image lasts from creation until OPPONENT is in FULL COVER (how long does an after image last if the opponent moves behind complete cover)
#2.2 Time after-image lasts from creation until HAWKEYE is in FULL COVER (how long does an after image last if HAWKEYE moves behind complete cover. The purpose of this test is to see if the ability works from Hawkeye's perspective or from the camera's perspective. because if it is from Hawkeye's perspective then Quick peeking no longer is viable to use on after-images.)
#3 DAMAGE TEST
#3.1 Is it more effective to shoot after-images at all or to shoot the actual character due to increased full charge time of Archers focus.
#3.2 Does Hypersonic arrow damage all after-images of opponent simultaneously?
#3.3 Do Blast Arrows damage all after-images of opponent simultaneously?
#4 DISTANCE TEST
#4.1 At what distance from Hawkeye do after-images no longer appear.
#4.2 At greater distances do the after-images first activation change?
