How much RAM is needed for this game to run SMOOTHLY?
I have 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and nothing else is running besides the game, but it still lags because the RAM is at 100% usage. Is that normal?

I been experiencing this a lot with some modern UE5 game, and yet never really encountered out of memory issues. My guess is that it is intentionally using more RAM so that it can use more when needed. So it should be fine.

But yes would love to know how many gigs the game is using when your ram is 32GB

My setup has 32 gigs of RAM. Every time I play the game is a toss up.

It either runs perfectly fine with not a single noticable framedrop or it crashes every minute.

Since the most recent update UE5 has become an unoptimized piece of garbage. The only workaround I found is using DX 11 instead of DX 12, but this game doesn't support DX 11 so I'm just stuck playing russian roulette with my PC's RAM.

Guess I'll have to wait for the devs to figure out how to optimize the game to a playable state.

These days minimum should be 32gb. im hitting 17gb usage while playing.

This is common for newer game engines. Long gone are the days of statically defined memory. Now games are, or should be, designed to use as much ram as possible dynamically. Resulting in as many assets/meshes/textures loaded in as possible, which should increase performance drastically because all those resources are readily/quickly available.

The whole "unused RAM is wasted RAM" only applies to servers with statically running processes, rather than client machines that multitask and start and stop apps (including web browsing). I'm also surprised how little these types of people are aware of disk cache - 'unused' RAM is used by disk cache, and given that modern OSes can only survive on an SSD nowadays, disk access is rarely a bottleneck.

Newer game engines have a ton more overhead because there's much less desire or care to do things efficiently in memory anymore. Same goes for most react web 'apps.'

I have 16GB and no lag. And Windows 11 Pro (which inherently uses more resources overall)

Modern OSes can only survive on an SSD!??

What??

I've installed every single version of Windows since 98 on HDDs at some point or another and they all work fine, just with a slow initial startup.

It's not advised to run it in an HDD, but it definitely works and it's very usable
i would say 32GB since thats all ive ever ran and never had an issue with any game lagging.

Windows 11 (and later versions of 10) take eons to not just startup (several minutes...), but with opening new apps. Yea, I've survived on an HDD before so yes it is possible if you like waiting a lot. I would not call it "very usable" unless you're running a single application/don't start up many apps and are fine waiting several minutes on boot. Maybe 'usable.' Windows 11 task manager also seems to be bound to disk access.

I know this because I had used an SSD that would randomly dip into write speeds of 4MB/s (which is still faster than most HDD's random access speeds), and Windows 11 would operate at a crawl. I've since swapped that SSD out from being an OS disk lol.

Windows 8.1 was probably the last performant OS, about 1GB (or less) RAM usage on boot and starts up in a reasonable time (a couple minutes at worst) on an HDD.

If I close everything, I'm able to get by barely with 16GB total memory. If I have a browser, discord, or some other app open, I will get lag spikes when paging occurs (and I see a subsequent spike in disk IO)
16GB of ram is little man energy

upgrade that joke of a PC , op
Do you have a 13th or 14th gen Intel CPU? They have issues with UE5 games. If so you need to set better power targets in the bios. Tons of info online for you particular cpu
Make sure your windows page file is set to be on your SSD (and has adequate space, if it doesn't game will crash)

for W10 its settings -> System -> About -> Advanced System settings -> performance -> advanced.

Make sure your virtual memory isn't set to just use a hard-drive, that was causing my stuttering. I ended up crashing after setting it too small, so be careful about that.

I'm on low settings, so higher setting may need more RAM.

this is the attitude that lets software devs continue to be lazy and require even more memory.

Wasn't this fixed?.
