Reporting is working, but maybe too well.

So i've been a "well meaning" individual and trying to report bad actors whether they are playing casual or competitive - particulary salty individuals, flaming team for no reason, throwing and what not. And i've been getting pretty regular "thank you for reporting" messages, which obviously can be just a pat on a back and nothing else. But today durning a particulary poorly matched game, our healer went "screw this" and went afk after dying once. Whether it's a casual or competitive match, you shouldn't just abandon your team or at least leave so we have replacement, so i reported him for going afk and in real time, the moment i pressed "send" the guy went -POOF- and left a match. I thought "Oh i guess he DC'ed or just left the game". But after a match i got the "Thank you for reporting" message, which made me think that report system actually, for real, can remove people from matches. And you'd think it's a good thing, since people you report actually get punished, but if system is actually removing people from the game just like that, it should be working REALLY WELL to distinguish actual bad actors from someone being mass reported by salty people.

I should note that my sample size is very small, because i don't throw reports left and right. I could just happen to report people that everyone else had bad time playing with. It is very much possible that it was just a coincidence that the guy just left the game while i was sending out report and he already had couple complains stacked up.

So what everyone's experience with report system? Cause i feel like i just shot a man.

The report system is borked. I reported someone once for AFKing and throwing a match, instant feedback. I then reported some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ edge lord saying he was going to rape me over voice chat, and no acknowledgement or action taken. Whatever, at least I'm not banned for a month for telling the dude to ♥♥♥♥ off like I would have been in Overwatch.

Voice chat needs to be examined in person... chat and afk can be scanned by autoban bot.

Also there is a good chance you just caught a guy in a bad mood or you egged him, so it's a one time deal. Reports usually rely on people being bad regulary and not just once or twice.

The specifics of what being said only important when reviewed in person. If you really want that guy punished for real - you need a recording and sent it directly and say something like "He said that to little kids".

Nope, this is unprompted.. though I absolutely struggle to understand a situation where being edgy about rape is a begotten response but you do you. I've gotten tilted and flamed, never has it ever occurred to me to be aggressive about rape. Yikers.

I'm not triggered by the experience, I just think the priorities are kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

Report system sees numbers. If he only got one report for saying ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up stuff, he only got 1 report. If someone left a bunch of games quietly, he got a bunch reports and therefore more likely to get bonked.

For anything else you will have to do the legwork - sending replays and stuff.

in league of legends if you say that kind of thing and you get reported you are punished, regardless of how many prior reports you have. Honestly with how much they've increased their severity in the past 2 years now you'd probably get punished before you're even reported. The idea that they need a certain amount of reports before the system "works" is dumb. I'm curious to know where you got the information that that's how it works in this game

i've got no evidence on how reports are handled, but if purely automatic, it'll make sense to add a ratio (Matches Played/Reports Given) to avoid adding values to "mass reporters".

In short, it's a linear way for the game to acknowledge that you'd really need to be bad for getting reports by people that normally never have a problem with anybody.

pratically like a points system before getting reviewed, the more rare your reports are, the more efficient it is.

Yesterday reported a guy for staying afk after failed surrender vote in the 2nd round - still no ban.

Tried to stay afk myself in 2 matches - got no ban

IMHO the automatic system should be improved, and not rely so much on manual reporting.
It's ridiculous.
