Game crashing on "click to start" after first launch
I've had this issue since install where the first time I boot up the game to play everything is totally okay and works well, but if I close the game (whether through the menu or otherwise) and try to launch it again the game will crash on the "click to start" screen once clicked until the PC is rebooted (to which it'll repeat after the new first launch).

I get this error every single time:

Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION 0x0000000000000000

I've tried verifying the files and a few other solutions with nothing working. :( I'm unsure if anyone else has this issue or has a fix.

Did you try to disable Steam Overlay seeing as it's the last call the game made before crashing ?
Any other overlays or apps interfering with rendering in any way ?

This was it!! It actually works fine now after disabling it!
Thank you so much!
I tried disabling the Steam overlay and it worked.. For a while. Then it crashed again, same error and the crash happens at random both when playing and when the game is reopened - Click to start -> crash. overlayrenderer64, even with no overlay.

i have this issue over and over currently the only fix is a hard pc reboot and it will be good for x amount of hours and so on any other fix was only temporary and then i was out of options. Hoping they release an update soon where i wont have to restart once every few hours just to play the damn game.

Same issue, and it started recently. The game worked fine since release until about a week ago.

having the same issue; sometimes it will crash then the next try it will work, sometimes it just won't work until I reboot. I tried disabling the steam overlay as advised above (right click on the game in your library, go to Properties, there's a toggle a the top of General), but it didn't help
i think i found the problem if you have the overlay off on the nvidia app it will crash because i turned it back on and its working fine

Disabling the overlay in the Nvidia setting "nvidia app overlay" seems to fix the issue for me as mentioned above. Not sure its a permanent solution. but working for now with it disabled.

I don't think I have anything like that running, I don't do streaming or video capture.
Since the update that flagged anti-virus I've started disabling my AV protection before launching and that seems to have also solved the Click to Start crashes
I have the same issue ever since the 1.5 update. Takes me like 3-4 tries to finally work.

when the update started tagging windows powershell and getting flagged as malware, I started turning off my AV before launching. I haven't had this crash since then.

There's a lot of different fixes for this problem. The majority of them seem to either be.

Uninstall bit defender.
Downgrade your drivers.
