Overwatch 2 is Superior to Marvel’s Rivals [Here’s Why]
EDIT: Bad dps, bad tank, bad healer. No cross-progression with console (Fortnite did this in 2017...) and terrible lanes + Chinese spyware.

Uninstall and go back to Overwatch 2... plz.

Look, I’ve given Marvel’s Rivals a fair shot [EPIC GAMES/XBSX]. I really have. On the surface, it promises a lot—big-name heroes, team-based gameplay, flashy action. But once you dive in, the cracks are not only visible—they’re gaping. And when you put it next to Overwatch 2, it’s like comparing a master-crafted sword to a plastic toy. Overwatch 2 does so much right that Rivals simply cannot compete, and I’m not just here to hate—I’m here to break it down.

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: class balance. Rivals’ idea of balance is a chaotic mess. It feels like every time you load into a match, one class is laughably overpowered while others are just there for decoration. I’m looking at you, hulking brawlers that delete half the team in one ult. Rivals lacks the nuance and dynamic interplay of Overwatch 2’s roles. Blizzard understood that tanks, DPS, and supports each needed a defined purpose to make a team work. Meanwhile, Rivals feels like it slapped random numbers onto characters and hoped for the best.

Speaking of teamwork, this is where Overwatch 2 really shines. The synergy between roles is second to none. Want to make a big play? Get your Reinhardt to shield your team, your Lucio to amp it up, and your Soldier to finish the job. Every match feels like a chess game where you’re not just playing your character—you’re thinking about how they fit into the grander scheme. In Rivals, it’s more like dodgeball. Everyone’s out for themselves, coordination is an afterthought, and the game punishes players who try to think tactically.

Then there’s the roster. Yes, Rivals has iconic names, but Overwatch 2’s heroes are leagues better in terms of design and playability. Each Overwatch hero feels like they’ve been meticulously crafted, with unique abilities and personality that make them shine. When you pick Echo, Cassidy, or Kiriko, you know what you’re getting: a distinct experience. In Rivals, so many characters feel interchangeable. You’ve got your bruisers, your glass-cannon DPS, your half-baked support classes, and… that’s about it. Good luck remembering who’s who when most abilities boil down to “spam buttons until something dies.”

And don’t get me started on the overall pacing. Rivals’ matches often devolve into steamrolls where one team dominates because of broken characters or bad matchmaking. Overwatch 2 has its flaws here (we’ve all been in those losing streak lobbies), but at least it tries to create balance. Between proper role queues, dynamic maps, and constant reworks to keep things fresh, Blizzard shows that they understand what makes a competitive game fun. Rivals? It feels like they threw their balancing team out the window halfway through development.

Finally, let’s talk polish. Overwatch 2 isn’t perfect, but it’s undeniably slick. From the art style to the voice acting to the sheer quality of the animations, it feels like a labor of love. Rivals, on the other hand, feels like a rushed cash grab—shiny on the surface but lacking depth or refinement. The UI is clunky, the maps are uninspired, and the game doesn’t seem to understand what makes its own gameplay loop enjoyable.

In the end, Overwatch 2 is a game that rewards strategy, teamwork, and skill. Rivals is a chaotic mess that feels more like a missed opportunity than a true competitor. If you’re looking for a team-based shooter that actually values its players’ time and effort, there’s no contest: Overwatch 2 is the clear winner.

It's a third person shooter. Like Paladins was. We've only been asking for years.
This, Its only better then OW for the wonderful 3rd person. And TBH I want to see blizzard fail after all I been threw with them over the last 20 years.

Did you pay someone to write this for you? Most of your reviews sound like a 12 year old wrote them.

Dota 2 review "It’s a superior MOBA compared to League of Craps. However, I don’t like MOBAs due to the fact that it’s just not ARPG as Diablo 4 or Lost Ark."

Bro downloads a moba and gives negative review cuz its not an ARPG?
i know who they go to write this one their name is Chat GPT

"They hated him because he spoke the truth" ahh moment.

Jokes aside, you ain't wrong, but nowadays it's popular to ♥♥♥♥ on Blizzard. Anyways I agree with you. Both games are incredibly fun but Overwatch objectively still a better and more refined game. However Marvel Rivals also have a ton of potential so time will tell.

I mean... as someone who only grew up playing WoW and other Blizzard games... I can understand why Blizzard is the way they are right now, Blizzard in the past couple of years hasn't been doing well with most of their releases has been met with negativity.

I haven't played Overwatch 2 since Season 6 and I have little desire to come back unless Blizzard pulls something that will get me back to it, PvE being scaled down initially then it ended up getting scrapped entirely was the straw that broke the camels back for me and imo the current game I wasn't really having fun either and come along this game, I'm having more fun playing it then I had in Overwatch 2.

Hero Shooters have never been to my liking. I played overwatch for a while with friends for lavk of common interests. I can see why people like it, and don't claim to recall enough to judge it more than I was relieved when the group stopped playing.

As someone who dislikes pretty much every super hero media excluding Deadpool and guardians of the galaxy, I thought I'd hate this game.

0% hype. I begrudgingly tried it and quickly uninstalled, not wanting to be stuck compromising again.

A few weeks later I installed it again. Ran a few matches. And against every fiber of my understanding- I'm hooked. I'm currently improving my aim with Widow. (Shooters not being my preference, I've got it around 60%ish reg.- not great! But I'm learning.)

It's ok if you prefer overwatch. I'm having fun here. :)

Lacked any solid explanations to support your generic assertions, relying instead on basic use of jargon and weak, opinion-based statements to assert why X is superior to X. Noice.

I mean the entire reason for Overwatch 2's existence is to have a PvE game mode, it justifies the "2" being there.

Now its scaled down to the point you get story missions which at most are just 3 hours, have little to no replayability and costed $15 and now pretty much the entire PvE project is scrapped, you know the whole reason for the "2" being there.

With PvE being tossed to the wayside, Overwatch 2 is pretty much a big content update, the only thing it had to show for it is 5v5 (which will probably will get removed down the line if 6v6 ends ups being the default way to play the game) and the monetization, pretty much the same game, cant really justify the "2" existence anymore.

Looks like this was written by chat GPT tbh, there's only one reason OW is better than Rivals and that's its mechanical depth (map design is also debatable as well). OW has way more mechanical depth and actual skill representation in it vs auto aim rinse and repeat combos in Rivals with many characters. The movement is way more precise as well as the aim and CD usage matters more in OW. Outside of that Rivals is better in every way.

Map design and game optimization and overall polish also I guess. So maybe a bit more. Characters have fun movesets and good depth IMO and they play into their roles well.
